Climate Policy Fellowship in U.S. Congress

The Climate Solutions Foundation’s Congressional Fellowship Program is a unique opportunity for individuals interested in gaining public policy experience and developing durable policy solutions to advance the agenda on climate.

ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP: This fellowship provides individuals interested in climate policy with invaluable and practical public policy experience in the United States Congress. Fellows will be placed in a Republican or Democratic office within the Senate or House of Representatives.

Fellows bring a deep understanding of climate science to help inform the development of responsible, bipartisan climate policies. They will work alongside congressional staff in drafting legislation, conducting oversight work, preparing speeches and briefs, and assisting with committee hearings and events. 

WHO SHOULD APPLY: If you are early in your career, have a graduate degree and are interested in climate policy, this fellowship may be perfect for you! Candidates must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Have, or complete by August, a graduate degree (master’s, PhD, etc.) in climate science, environmental science, or a relevant field (political science, science communications, public administration, etc.)
  • Be able to translate complex ideas and dense topics into easily understood written and verbal communications
  • Have a desire to tackle climate change through pragmatic solutions.

This is an in-person position in Washington, D.C..

COMPENSATION: Fellows accept a 12-month assignment – August 2024 to July 2025. The salary is $80,000, plus $200 per month reimbursement for health insurance coverage.


ABOUT THE CLIMATE SOLUTIONS FOUNDATION: 
The Climate Solutions Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit founded by Foundation Co-Chairs, Former Senator Mary Landrieu and Former Congressman Carlos Curbelo. They launched the Foundation with a series of bipartisan, bicameral gatherings of Members of Congress, executives, and scientists with one purpose: to build trust within the climate change community that inspires collaborative efforts to advance the agenda on climate. The Foundation supports the continued work of the House and Senate Climate Solutions Caucuses, and works with Members and staff who want to be more involved in these critical and bipartisan conversations.

Applicants must provide a resume, two references, and a 500-word or less essay describing your interest in public policy, relevant expertise and what you hope to gain from this experience.
