WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Climate Project Manager is a key member of the Washington Business Unit’s Climate team . They coordinate a large, matrixed Climate Policy & Implementation Team, and work to strengthen and implement climate policy in Washington. The team coordination role includes scheduling and facilitating meetings, setting up internal systems and procedures, tracking impact through data, metrics and carbon accounting, cross program information-sharing, and contract management. Beyond their internal work, the Climate Project Manager will work to implement climate policy in at least one of the following topics: equitable decision making in climate policy, air quality, climate resilient land use, and natural climate solutions. They will support The Nature Conservancy’s conservation goals through outreach and engagement with partners, agencies, & frontline communities in support of equitable policy development, public engagement, and funding access.

Essential position functions include:

Program, Project, and Team Coordination (50%)

  • Coordinate matrixed climate team, schedule and facilitate a regular cadence of team meetings, and ensure effective organization and tracking of key deliverables
  • Support the Climate Policy & Implementation Strategy Team, Government Relations Team, and Director of Climate Action & Resilience in effectively delivering on our climate action goals.
  • Develop and maintain effective systems to ensure team coordination, collaboration and communication as well as integration and information sharing with other TNC teams, and external partners as needed.
  • Track project team progress and needs and advise the Climate Policy & Implementation Strategy Team co-leads.

Research, Data and Metrics (15%)    

  • Develop effective systems to ensure accurate and appropriate tracking and reporting on impact and progress metrics
  • Lead scoping and measuring of carbon related metrics in support of team members

Climate Project Support (25%)    

  • Support project activities related to at least one of the following areas: air quality and pollution, equitable engagement and policy making, climate resilient land use, natural climate solutions.
  • Serve as project manager for assigned projects. In the first year, this may include a climate policy campaign.

Compliance & Contract Management Support (10%)

Location and Schedule:

The preferred primary location for this position is Seattle, Washington, with other locations within reasonable travel distance to Seattle considered. Hybrid and/or flexible work arrangements are available.

The position may require travel throughout Washington State and to other U.S. locations and working long or flexible hours as needed.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing and implementing multiple projects.
  • Experience researching information from divergent sources and compiling it into a cohesive reporting structure.
  • Experience writing and editing promotional and informational material.
  • Experience presenting to and communicating with government or corporate staff and/or program leadership.
  • Experience working with partners/government agencies.
  • Fluency in English

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commitment to equity and inclusion in both work and workplace, including acting in accordance with our Washington Equity Statement and Statement of Commitment to Indigenous Peoples; be respectful of differences of identity and/or beliefs,
  • Knowledge of current practices and methodologies around GHG (greenhouse gas) emission reduction and sequestration accounting is beneficial.
  • Professional and/or lived experience working with or for BIPOC and frontline communities or community-based organizations.
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in public policy, business, or sustainability.
  • Experience coordinating complex projects in a decentralized organization, working across teams, operating units and functions to achieve optimal results.
  • Strong organizational skills, accuracy, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Experience building networks or organizational capacity, facilitating informational sessions, increasing internal knowledge and capacity, and identifying key stakeholders.
  • Experience negotiating complex agreements and contracts.
  • Ability to use existing technology to achieve desired results. Experience with database management, SharePoint, Smartsheet, Asana and Box a plus.
  • Self-starting, independent worker who can thrive in a decentralized organization with minimal oversight.

Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee’s motor vehicle record.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $72,000 – $82,000 for annual base salary for those based in Seattle, and between $65,000 – $75,000 annually for those in other Washington State Locations.

This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate’s location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
