This will include technical and strategic think to develop innovative solutions to Ethiopia’s agriculture, biodiversity, and land use interventions. S/he would conduct soil and land use analysis both at the policy and project implementation level, engagements with key technical experts in government, development partners and the wider stakeholders. S/he would review/draft analytical papers, articles, refining and solidifying GGGI’s service offerings related to the agriculture and sustainable landscape thematic area in Ethiopia. The Lead shall engage with colleagues within GGGI Ethiopia Country Program, Regional Office, and Global community of practice to expand on Climate Smart Agriculture, Biodiversity and Sustainable Land use portfolio. The post holder shall also be expected to assist in the development of partnerships with private sector players to ensure environmentally sustainable and inclusive practices and catalyze investment for Climate Smart Agriculture, Biodiversity and Sustainable Land use development.
Purpose:
- Lead the analysis of the dynamic context, assesses issues, and identifies opportunities in the CSA, Biodiversity and Sustainable land use priorities of Ethiopia and integrates them into design and implementation of national program plans and activities.
- Manage the GGGI Ethiopia Biodiversity and Conservation Project funded by Sweden.
- Ensure effective and efficient delivery of results in the evolving Ethiopia CSA, Biodiversity and Sustainable Land use program.
- Assess effectiveness of program delivery issues and works with national counterparts to build common understanding and coordination on project activities as well as recommend improvements to meet key milestones for the program.
- Ensure that experiences and best practices are documented and shared across the Ethiopia CSA, Biodiversity and Sustainable Land use community and GGGI more widely.
- Provides analysis and technical input into the development and review of new CSA, Biodiversity and Sustainable Land use policy and other strategic planning documents.
- Play a major role in the implementation of specific projects, monitors budget, completes reporting, and seeks strategic direction from Country Representative.
- Provide support to the related community of practice, different technical resources for smooth delivery of project outputs within stipulated timelines through proper communication and coordination.
The CSA, Biodiversity and Sustainable Land use Lead is expected to deliver the following:
- Lead and manage on the delivery of the related projects under the CSA, Biodiversity and Sustainable Land use program, including quality reporting and timely delivery of the related project outcomes, outputs, and activities.
- Manage the related personnel under her/his direct supervision adhering to GGGI’s Core Values
- Coordinate activities, exchange information and provide technical advice with the Project Managers, to contribute to the achievement of overall program objectives.
- Provide timely and quality reporting and evaluations of projects to donors including start-up work plans/detailed project implementation plans, baseline reports, annual work plans, progress reports, risk management plans.
- Provide strategic and technical advisory for preparing briefing notes, concept notes and analytical reports to support GGGI’s CSA, Biodiversity and Sustainable Land use work.
- Identify and formulate relevant assessment of program needs and resources to assist in CSA, Biodiversity and Sustainable Land use programme design, development, and implementation.
- Oversee coordination of meetings, workshops, and other events and activities related to the program, both at the national and subnational levels.
- Identify relevant information related to policy-driven issues, synthesis of best practices and lessons-learned directly linked to GGGI CSA, Biodiversity and Sustainable Land use program goals and Community of Practice.
- A MSC degree in the field of agriculture, natural resource management or related fields. PhD holders or post-doctoral degrees in related fields would be an asset. Bachelor’s degree in combination of 4 additional years of concrete experience may be accepted in lieu of the master’s degree.
- Preferably 10 years of relevant experience in policy, project planning, and/or project implementation in agriculture, natural resource management, and land use sector.
- Demonstrated experience in climate smart agriculture and biodiversity/agroforestry is an advantage.
- Experience in project identification, design, preparation and/or implementation in agriculture and land use sector.
- Experience in engaging with private sector actors, including investors and banks and other stakeholders (NGOs, civil society) would be an advantage.
- Overall understanding of the concept of green growth and climate change vulnerability is an advantage.
- A work experience in Ethiopia is an added asset.
- Fluency in English and excellent report writing skills are essential.
