Job Summary
Involves the design and delivery of clinician (primarily nursing), professional / leadership development programs, policies, activities, assessment tools, and systems. Promotes excellence in patient care, through skill acquisition in evidence based nursing practice and clinical inquiry. Collaborates with nursing leadership to tailor programs and resources based on needs assessments. Meets the diverse requirements of the nursing units, patient populations, regulatory and accreditation and strategic goals of the organization / health system.
Applies extensive knowledge of mental health clinical education and training practices to develop and deliver education and training content for all levels of clinicians, primarily nurses, at LPPH, Parnassus Emergency Department and throughout the medical center. Participate in psychiatric assessments, quality management activities, and assist with staff training and evaluations. Mentors nurse educators and functions as a leader and information resource. Holds in-depth specialty knowledge within a mental health nursing discipline. Leads or oversees the implementation of new programs. Must have knowledge of mental health nursing processes, individual/family dynamics in health and during illness. The psychiatric Nurse Educator will develop, initiate and coordinate the patient plan of care through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in collaboration with the healthcare team and in compliance with all agency, local, state, federal laws and regulations

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% – 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description
Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital (LPPH) occupies the 7th Floor of the Medical Center building at 1600 Divisadero St., San Francisco, and provides services that include a 30-bed locked psychiatric inpatient unit, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), and intensive outpatient programs (IOP). LPPH also coordinates an active electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) service and is preparing to launch a hospital-based transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) service. LPPH leadership also oversees innovative model for evaluating and treating emergency at the medical center.
LPPH has an 80-year tradition of very active collaboration with the UCSF Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (DPBS), contributing significantly to the DPBS clinical service, teaching, and research missions—and has consistently ranked among the top psychiatric hospitals in the nation. In addition, The school of medicine at LPPH intends to develop closer relationships with UCSF School of Nursing aimed to develop nursing practices.
