The Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Program Manager is responsible to develop, organize, maintain, supervise, and administer the CPE Program of the Department of Chaplaincy, meeting or exceeding the accreditation and regulating standards of our clinical education accrediting organization, the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).

The position develops curriculum for Level I, Level II and Certified Educator CPE; organizes the hiring process and interviews, hires, orients and supervises and evaluates the educational and clinical work of chaplain residents (temporary one year employees) in the CPE Residency program;  hires, orients, supervises and evaluates the Administrative Assistant; markets the CPE Programs; organizes the interviewing and admission process for Level I CPE interns; organizes, manages, and administers all educational/clinical events and opportunities relevant to the CPE Program; evaluates and develops the CPE Programs to maintain accreditation standards and regulations and address changes needed to remain in compliance.  

The position includes planning, assigning, directing and evaluating the work of CPE interns and residents (total annual number of CPE interns and CPE resident chaplains is 11-16). The position involves developing educational presentations about pastoral care, chaplaincy skills and topics; teaching and educating CPE students, and others as assigned.

The position collaborates with the Director, staff chaplains, administrative assistant, other local CPE Program staff, and other medical center staff in the organizing of the CPE programs and supervision of CPE students.  Some direct pastoral care services may occur as assigned to patients, families and staff. The Certified Educator reports to the Director of the Department of Chaplaincy and Clinical Pastoral Education.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master of Divinity Degree or equivalent degree in Theology from an accredited theological school university or seminary.

  • Must possess Certification as Associate Supervisor or CPE Supervisor with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. (ACPE), or eligible; ordination or ministry license or endorsement by denomination.

  • 5 years of relevant experience required. 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred.
