Clinical Psychiatrist

Role Summary

In collaboration with and under the Program Manager, Coordinator, and Technical Advisor, the clinical psychiatrist will be responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments for community members presenting with trauma related, emotional, or behavioral difficulties, using standardized and culturally appropriate tools. The psychiatrist will provide clinical consultation, medication management and capacity building to local staff. He or she will work with the MHPSS team to develop and implement individualized treatment and care plans that are appropriate to each clients needs, age, and cultural background. In addition, the psychiatrist will actively participate in developing referral pathways to higher more specialized health facilities if needed. The candidate will have exceptional clinical skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team setting.

 

Job Duties

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults presentencing with trauma related, emotional, or behavioral difficulties, using evidence based and culturally appropriate assessments.
• Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications as required. Ensuring appropriate monitoring and adjustment of treatment regimens.
• Follow up on psychiatric cases to monitor progress and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
• Provide expert advice and support for complex cases requiring specialized psychiatric input.
• Provide guidance and support to the MHPSS team regarding medication management and side effects.
• Work collaboratively with the MHPSS team to develop individualized treatment and care plan ensuring interventions are tailored to each beneficiary OR
• Immediately report protection and safety concerns to the Program Coordinator and/or Program Manager.
• Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential medical record for all patients according to organization and legal standards.
• Work in collaboration with the MHPSS team point of contact to coordinate and schedule assessments and follow up with clients.
• Provide training and support to MHPSS staff as needed (psychiatric conditions, medication management, and treatment strategies).
• Ensure all clinical practices comply with international standards (WHO); organizational policies, standards, and local regulations. Adhere to mental health, human rights and international legislation.

Education / Experience Needed

 

Education 

• Medical degree (M.D) with specialization in Psychiatry
• Valid license to practice psychiatry in Iraq. Approval from the Department of Health (DoH) is required for doctors.

 

Experience

• Proven experience in managing complex mental health cases and providing psychotropic medication
• Preferably previous NGO experience
• Preferably 2+ years of experience in psychiatric practice, including experience working with displaced populations or in humanitarian settings

 

LANGUAG

Fluent/High level in Arabic, Kurdish (Kurmanji), and English
