About the opportunity

The Clinical Skills Educator and Simulation Coordinators are responsible for the planning, coordination, facilitation and teaching of procedural clinical skills and simulation-based teaching to medical students across all years of the Sydney Medical Program (SMP).

The procedural skills and simulation-based clinical skills teaching is delivered at each of the SMP Clinical Schools located at various LHD Hospitals.  These include Northern Clinical School (Royal North Shore Hospital and Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital), Central Clinical School (Concord Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital), Westmead Clinical School (Westmead Hospital and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead) and Nepean Clinical School.  

There is a team of highly skilled and motivated clinical educators (11) that deliver this component of the SMP.  We are now seeking to create a casual pool that can support the team during periods of intense workload, absence etc.

As a casual Clinical Skills Educator and Simulation Coordinator, you will work under the broad direction and make decisions in the completion of daily tasks related to their key accountabilities. You will be expected to exercise a degree of initiative and judgement in planning work activity and resolving problems associated with day-to-day operating procedures directly linked to their key accountabilities. Problems that cannot be resolved and are outside the scope of their key accountabilities are referred to the supervisor or more senior co-workers.

Your key responsibilities will be

  • providing education administrative (e.g., timetabling, ordering) support

  • delivering procedural and simulation-based clinical teaching sessions

  • assisting with the educational reporting and compliance requirements for the work area

  • actively contributes to the FMH Clinical/Procedural Skills Community of Practice

  • undertakes ad-hoc projects and other activities

You will have

  • current clinical skills knowledge

  • well-developed skills in clinical practice and teaching, including simulation, simulated patients and clinical skills training methods in health profession education

  • effective and tactful communication skills (both verbal and written) together with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement, along with the ability to prioritize workload during busy periods

  • ability to work both independently and in a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work

  • excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively and manage multiple tasks and to meet deadlines and achieve required outcome

  • excellent client focus with the ability to build partnerships between the Sydney Medical School/ Faculty teams and the school and local health teams
