Job Summary

The incumbent will be assigned to Citywide Case Management Forensics Program. In this position, the incumbent will collaborate with criminal justice partners including Jail Behavior Health, NoVA, Behavioral Health Court and Mental Health Diversion Court as well as SFGH Psychiatric Emergency Services in working with dually diagnosed adults in the community. The incumbent will provide comprehensive assessment, crisis intervention, case management, individual and group therapy, and substance abuse services. Clients will receive their mental health and substance abuse services at the Center or wherever they are located. The incumbent will assist clients in meeting their needs and will make referrals as appropriate.  Our programs are part of the SFGH Department of Psychiatry’s comprehensive effort to treat high-risk clients in the community and to reduce unnecessary use of institutional care.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% – 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

Citywide Case Management Programs is a Division of the UCSF/ZSFG Department of Psychiatry, located at 982 Mission St. Its mission is to provide behavioral health intensive case management services to adults who suffer from serious mental illness, co-occurring substance abuse disorder and chronic medical conditions, experience significant systemic determinant of health, including justice-involvement or other forms of institutionalization, poverty and housing instability.

Required Qualifications

  • CSW I: Master’s degree in social work, psychology or related field from an accredited university and registered with the Board of Behavioral Science as An Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW) or Intern Marriage Family Therapist (IMFT) or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position Plus all of the above.
  • CSWII (in addition to the above): Master’s degree in social work, psychology or related field from an accredited university and possession of the requirements necessary for application for licensure as determined by the California Board of Behavioral Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position; Plus all of the above.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with others. Ability to work in a high stress, high volume area and work well under pressure and with deadlines. Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately, and be detailed oriented. Able to efficiently prepare written summaries of activities, set priorities and complete reports within required timeframes. Knowledge of medical and/or psychiatric terminology
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work as a team member in a culturally diverse setting
  • Able to lift 50lbs and climb stairs
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability
  • A preliminary job offer and assignment may be extended pending successful background clearance.
  • An understanding of mental health issues and sensitivity toward mental health clients
  • Ability to work with clients and program staff from diverse cultural and social class backgrounds
  • Ability to obtain San Francisco County Jail Clearance through the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years working with severely mentally ill adults, the homeless and dual diagnosed populations
  • One year experience doing community-based case management and the ability to do outreach including to SRO hotels
  • One year experience working with individual actively involved in the criminal justice system
  • Prior related UC experience
