Clinical Training Director – California Southern University (PhD or PsyD and Licensed Clinical Psychologist Required)

Member of the academic staff responsible for overseeing Learners in the PsyD Program with their practicum and internship placement and responsibilities. The Director of Clinical Training – PsyD Program, assists, guides and evaluates Learners in their clinical development as mental health practitioners. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

(Other duties may be assigned)  

    • Directs and coordinates practicum and intern placements for the Doctor of Psychology degree for the University
    • Facilitates weekly Clinical Case Conferences for Learners in practicums, internships, and field placements 
    • Reviews and interprets the rules and regulations of State Psychology Boards to ensure that the program conforms to the rules and regulations
    • Serves as liaison officer with accrediting agencies responsible for oversight of PsyD academic program including the California Board of Psychology
    • Reviews and approves pre-doctoral internship placements, supervisors, and California Board of Psychology documents
    • Evaluates progress of students in conjunction with program goals and serves as an ad hoc member of the CalSouthern Learner Conduct Committee as needed
    • Counsels Learners regarding academic problems affecting their clinical performance
    • Collaborates with practicum and internship faculty mentors in providing clinical skills development and supervision to the University’s standards of quality and integrity
    • Keeps current on trends in clinical skills development and engages in opportunities for program improvement
    • Prepares letters of reference and completes respective board paperwork for Learners.
    • Trains Academic Advisors and Enrollment Counselors on PsyD practicum and internships
    • Supports PsyD Learners to facilitate the successful completion of the practicum experience as well as retention and successful completion of the degree program
    • Serves as PsyD Clinical Director, Liaison, and representative for CalSouthern Learner Conduct Committee Meetings as needed
    • Conducts ongoing Mentor trainings related to practicum courses and requirements and as deemed necessary and appropriate for the department.
    • Remain knowledgeable of all Board requirements for doctoral program level.
    • Serves as a faculty mentor, teaching all qualified and credentialed courses within the School of Behavioral Sciences as needed.
    • Manages student conduct and practice-related issues that arise during practicum and internship.
    • Oversees processing of practicum Affiliation Agreements and MOUs for PsyD program Learners.
    • Serves on, and actively participates, as a member of university committees as needed and assigned.
    • Coordinates university sponsored events within the community, state, and national membership organizations
    • Coordinates and facilitates opportunities for practicum and internship placements
    • ncreases PsyD program enrollment through marketing and community outreach efforts
    • n collaboration with Dean, Program Chair, Director of Clinical Training, and other staff, supports state authorization efforts as appropriate.
    • Advises the Dean, Program Chair, Chief Academic Officer and the President on academic matters related to practicum and internship program development and requirements.
    • Advise, mentor, and support learners in all School of Behavioral Science programs.
    • Performs other assignments and administrative duties on an ad hoc basis as required by supervision.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May be required to directly or indirectly supervise Faculty Mentors related to the PsyD, MA, MS and/or BA Courses and Addictions Certifications May manage one or more assistants, coordinators, chairs, and/or mentors as required to accommodate department growth. Continuously collaborate with the practicum and internship faculty mentors in assisting, guiding, and evaluating Learners in their clinical development as mental health practitioners

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Doctorate degree (Ph.D. or PsyD). from an accredited institution and more than 3 years related supervisory experience and/or training. Flexibility to handle a diversity of details to make informed and responsive decisions on matters that impact the clinical development of Learners within academic programs.  Ability to establish both short- and long-term clinical objectives and operations for the department.  Familiarity with computer business applications is required.

 

PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE:

Must hold a current license as a Clinical Psychologist.

 

QUALITIES:

Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and experience working with diversity issues. Possesses flexibility to problem solve and make informed decisions on matters that impact students. Builds collaborative relationships with faculty and staff to help students achieve educational/career goals. Shows proficiency in establishing short and long-term academic goals. Experience with computer business applications and conferencing software is required.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governing body regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues, learners, accrediting and licensing agencies, and the public.  Effectiveness in human relations and dealing with the human aspects of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY:  

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee must regularly talk and actively listen. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include computer technology and written materials which require close vision and color vision.
