Offer Description
Your responsibilities
As CLOUD Run Coordinator you will be part of the team at CERN that is responsible for leading the CLOUD experiment, coordinating and supporting the visiting experimental researchers, organising the data-taking runs at the CERN PS, developing the CLOUD experimental facility and its instruments, and participating in the scientific research.
The primary task of the Run Coordinator is to coordinate, in close collaboration with the CLOUD institutes, the analysing instruments brought to CERN for each run and to prepare their layout and operational requirements at the CLOUD chamber, including all needed supplies, services and safety requirements (gases, chemicals, radioactive sources, cooling, electrical power, sampling probes, etc.). You will maintain the CLOUD chemicals laboratory and its inventory, and monitor the consumption of and order replacements for around 40 trace vapours supplied to CLOUD from bottles or evaporators.
Before and during a run you will be directly involved in the scientific, technical and logistical planning for the experiments performed at CLOUD. An essential part of your tasks is to organise and support the visiting scientific teams from the CLOUD institutes who carry out their experimental research with the CLOUD facility and its CERN particle beam. Support aspects include shipping and receiving of instruments, crane operations and organising accommodation for the visiting teams at the CERN hostel.
Your work involves outreach activities such as making presentations and hosting visits at CLOUD. You will also analyse CLOUD data together with other CLOUD experimenters, co-author research and technical papers, and report CLOUD results at collaboration meetings, conferences and workshops outside CERN.

About us
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter – fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
