The Cloud Solutions Engineer will be responsible for designing, building and implementing a secure Research Data Warehouse (specifically health related data) and data lakes in the cloud to support research, initially in AWS. 1. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan, architect and implement universal data repositories, data integration, data quality, data catalogs and related data management solutions
*Ability to collaborate and partner with researchers, data scientists, business domain leads, enterprise architects and other functional leads to deliver world-class data solutions
*Works with internal resources and vendors to help implement self-service platform services, and with Library and Technology Services (LTS) teams to ensure successful deployment of applications and development pipelines
*Collaborate with administrative, academic and research customers to understand needs and engineer technology solutions to meet needs
*Develop strong vendor relationships to ensure customer needs are met in a timely manner
*Deep understanding of HIPAA, NIST and FISMA regulations and frameworks
2. Model, design and build secure data management solutions using cloud services (such as Azure, Google Cloud, with AWS preferred
*Design solutions to organize structured, semi-structured and unstructured content using taxonomies
*Design efficient data models to support high-performance queries
*Ensure solutions support the complete data lifecycle—from creation to retention and purge
*Incorporate data management best practices to maintain security and controlled access to data
*Define data management processes, roles and responsibilities
*Write, maintain and communicate data design documentation
3. Architect and build solutions for integrating data storage architectures, ELT/ETL, metadata management, data quality management, data query, semantic search and API based data interfaces
*Serve as an organizational thought leader on data architecture, management and governance
*Utilizes Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Methodology and stores code in approved source control systems
*Works with the Vice Provost of Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics and associated team to define the strategic data requirements
*Works with the LTS Security team to define the security requirements of the University’s Analytics solution to ensure that data (both on-premise and in the cloud) is treated as a protected asset and adheres to current policies
4. Partner with other teams across LTS to provide consistent and repeatable service solutions in support of complex instructional and research needs
*Understand business drivers and capabilities (future and current state) and determine architecture to meet those business objectives
*Understand emerging technology trends and disruptions and the application of existing, new and emerging technologies to enable new and evolving business models
*Partner with other LTS teams to work with students, faculty and staff to refine requirements for and identify pain points to resolve in LTS services and solutions
*Deploy consistent and repeatable services
*Monitor application performance, develop and report metrics
*Follow established Change Management processes
*Develops and implements high-level and low-level technical design documents, standard operating procedures, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to ensure that systems support the organization’s business requirements and meet the needs of end-users
5. Contributes to the LTS organization, Lehigh University, higher education and other communities by participating in service activities and providing education and training on topics related to CTO areas
*Collaborates with other LTS members to problem solve, identify opportunities for improvement and share knowledge and information
*Serves on LTS and/or University committees
*Participates in LTS and University events and activities that benefit the team and/or the organization’s knowledge, skills and morale
*Writes and presents papers, presentations, workshops and seminars at professional conferences and to the University community
*Produces supporting materials for events such as written documentation, online tutorial videos and podcasts
*Participates in professional activities that contribute to the individual and team’s knowledge and skills
*Provides individualized training as needed

Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master’s Degree in Data Science or Computer Science preferred
Five to eight years related work experience
Problem-solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills
Strong attention to detail
Customer-focused mindset, with demonstrated skill in managing expectations, providing proactive status updates and producing high-quality work product
Ability to use independent judgment to make sound, justifiable decisions and take action to solve problems
Ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal staff and effectively work in team environment
A strong desire and aptitude for solving problems and performing deep technical dives to resolve issues quickly and efficiently
Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
