Location: Remote position with a preference for candidates located in/within a few hours of Wild Connections region (Front Range and Central Colorado)
Work Schedule: The position is full-time and will require some travel and flexibility, including several monthly evening and weekend meetings or events.
WHO WE ARE
Wild Connections is a science-based conservation organization, currently in its 29th year, that works to identify, protect, and restore lands of the Upper Arkansas and South Platte watersheds to ensure the survival of native species and ecological richness. Our long-term vision encompasses a region-wide network of protected wild lands and connecting habitat corridors, a strategy that forges links across the region, state and the Southern Rockies.
We believe that connecting Wildernesses and roadless areas in a wildlands network benefits migratory animals, rare plant communities, clean water resources for urban and mountain communities, local economies, quiet recreation, historic and cultural locations, scenic vistas and spiritual values.
THE POSITION
As Co-Executive Director, the applicant will be primarily responsible for managing and expanding the Wild Connections fundraising activities. In conjunction with the other Co-Executive Director who focuses on conservation, the applicant will also oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization, including finances, record keeping, constituent relations, and other other duties as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising and outreach plan that increases various funding sources with emphasis on identifying new institutional donors and expanding donations from individuals, businesses, and organizations.
- Oversee and assist in preparation of foundation and governmental grant applications and reports and manage relationships with grantors.
- Coordinate the use of Wild Connections fundraising, finance and budgeting, outreach, and administrative databases and tools.
- Work with the other Co-Executive Director in developing, scheduling, publicizing, and hosting public events and activities.
- Coordinate outreach and communications with supporters, donors, and the general public.
- Represent Wild Connections at conferences, workshops, meetings, and other events to present Wild Connection’s mission and programs.
- Work closely with the other Co-Executive Director and Board of Directors, as well as other staff and volunteer teams, to further Wild Connections’ mission and programs including development of long-term goals and strategies.
- Report and provide information to the Wild Connections Board at quarterly board meetings and Committees as needed, typically at monthly meetings of two to three committees, to carry out the above responsibilities.
- Manage the use of Wild Connections fundraising, outreach, financial, and administrative databases and tools.
REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated ability in non-profit organization fundraising
- Defining and executing funding strategies and tactics.
- Success in increasing donations from individuals and businesses.
- Success with researching, writing, and receiving foundation, corporate, and/or government grants.
- Public speaking skills
- Ability to work in coordination with the other Co-Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other staff and volunteers. This includes working as part of a team, providing regular and clear communication, and giving and receiving productive feedback.
- Familiarity with fundraising, outreach, financial, and administrative databases and tools including constituent relationship management (CRM) systems.
- Willingness to travel to occasional events across the Wild Connections region.
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work independently outside of a highly structured work environment.
WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT
These items are pluses but are not required
- Past experience as Executive Director or Senior Leadership, Fundraising or Development role.
- Degree or college credits in a conservation field or nonprofit management.
- Familiarity with public lands conservation.
- Familiarity with nonprofit financial management.
- Familiarity working with and serving the needs of underserved/marginalized communities.
- Experience engaging and coordinating partners and volunteers.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Annual salary range $64,000 – $69,000 based on qualification and experience.
- Workers compensation and general liability coverage.
- Reimbursement for travel expenses at the current Internal Revenue Service rate and other approved out-of pocket expenses incurred in the performance of duties.
- 25 days of paid personal time off (PTO) each year. This can be used for vacation, illness, personal emergency, and other uses. Time off with pay for all Federal holidays.
