Co-op Coordinator

Primary Purpose: The primary purpose of the position is to provide administrative support and coordination that contributes to the successful delivery of the Engineering Co-op Internship Program for the College of Engineering. This position will be responsible for communicating and promoting employment, co-operative education, and professional development opportunities to students within the College of Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan, as well as promoting co-op and employment opportunities to industry and government partners.  

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Associate Dean, Research, and working closely with the Co-op program team and will be responsible for providing administrative support, coordination, and implementation of day to day activities required to meet the goals and vision of the Co-op Program. This position will be required to work independently and collaboratively effectively within the established guidelines in a fast paced work environment with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. 

Typical Duties or Accountabilities: 

  • Assisting with the review of student applications to Co-op Internship Program
  • Organizing and promoting Co-op Internship Program information sessions to various stakeholders
  • Providing assistance to employers in posting co-op/intern jobs and subsequent approval of jobs
  • Assisting with marking of course assignments for introductory co-op course and reflective assignments for work placement courses
  • Coordinating and conducting site visits with students on a work placement and their supervisors
  • Participating in the development of employer relationships at the local, national and international level to support the Engineering Co-op Internship Program
  • Organizing and co-facilitating re-integration sessions for students returning from work placements
  • Creating promotional materials to market the Engineering Co-op Internship Program
  • Providing support in the maintenance of the Co-op Internship Program website
  • Reviewing current labour market information and employment trends impacting Engineering students
  • Facilitating career development and employability workshops to prepare Engineering students for future employment
  • Participating in one-on-one meetings with students to discuss and provide guidance on career options
  • Organizing and promoting employer information sessions targeting Engineering students
  • Providing guidance to Engineering students with respect to career development, job search, cover letters and resumes and interview preparation
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education:   A relevant undergraduate degree is required.  A combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered. 

Experience:   Two to five years of directly related experience is required. Knowledge of the College of Engineering, Engineering Industry and the University of Saskatchewan will be considered an asset. 

Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant job markets for engineering co-op/intern students
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of stakeholders including prospective students, current students, employers, alumni, faculty and staff
  • Superior oral and written communication, interpersonal, presentation, attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Technical ability to learn and use database systems
  • Knowledge of work-integrated learning and co-operative education principles is an asset
  • Previous experience in a university setting is an asset
