Job Title: Coaching Supervisors (Daynile Central,East and Afgoye) 3 National Positions

Organizational Description:
AVSI is an international NGO with headquarters in Italy, which has been active in Kenya since 1986 and In Somalia since 2020. AVSI is a prominent provider of development and humanitarian assistance around the world and brings strong management and innovative strategies to programs in various sectors including; Agriculture and Food Security, Child Protection, Education, Energy, Health, Livelihood, Economic Strengthening, Wash, Vocational Training & Job Creation, Health, Protection including child protection, and Environment.

Programme Background:
AVSI Foundation is launching a poverty-alleviation project under its Resilience Food Security Activity framework in the areas of Mogadishu/Banadir and Afgoye. The project is centered on the Graduation Approach, a multistep, time-bound program designed to bring extremely poor and vulnerable households out of poverty in a sustainable and resilient manner. The interventions are hence planned to roll out in a set of underserved IDP and host settlements of Mogadishu/Banadir and the Afgoye area. While this approach has never been applied to this cale in Somalia, AVSI has built its expertise in Graduation after successfully applying this approach in countries like Kenya and Uganda. The project is expected to run from 2024 to 2029.

Job Purpose

To contribute to the RSFA “Adkeeysi” Program led by Save the Children and financed by BHA/USAID in Somalia, with a focus on the implementation of the coaching component of the Graduation Approach in collaboration with coaches.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Deliver programmatic decisions on the Graduation Approach best practice, as well as the innovations being tested.
  • Contribute to the refining of the coaching and graduation indicators and measurement tools for coaching, referral and graduation in coordination with the Graduation Advisor
  • Participate in participant targeting processes and ensure the enrolment of targeted groups
  • Responsible for the delivery of tools, Standard operating procedures (SOPs) and programmatic guidelines related to the coaching component
  • Network and link with other organizations and projects implementing coaching and graduation approaches, and provide regular updates to the Graduation Advisor
  • Map out all relevant service actors for critical services including integrated early childhood development, psychosocial support, parenting and care activities to ensure high quality programming and implementation of referrals and access to critical services
  • Regularly update the service provider inventory and engage them regularly towards maintaining a functional referral pathway
  • Participate in learning events, prepare abstracts and papers for conferences and publications related to achievements and challenges in the area of coaching and graduation
  • Ensure that all service outreaches are well planned and implemented towards effective referrals.
  • Represent the RFSA Project at all relevant administrative levels, working groups and initiatives related to coaching, referrals and graduation.
  • Develop plans and reports in line with timelines agreed with the Program Manager.
  • Participate in building capacity of local implementing partners, coaches and CBTs in the coaching technical area under the leadership of the Graduation Advisor
  • Represent AVSI in other official meetings
  • Perform other duties within area of responsibility, as requested by the supervisor

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• The ideal candidates MUST have a minimum Bachelors in the following fields: Social Sciences, Community Development, Social Work, Agriculture, Education, Social Administration, and other related areas.• Experience in community work preferably within an NGO or government is highly desired.
• Demonstrable ability to coach, mentor and build capacity of participant households and groups in identification and addressing of their needs.
• Experience working with refugees and host communities is desirable.
• Flexibility to work both in a team and independently
• Be a current resident in Mogadishu/Banadir or Afgoye/neighboring villages.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to write reports
• Cultural sensitivity, patience and flexibility
• Fluency in local Benaadir Somali dialect is a MUST, while knowledge of any dialects spoken by IDP communities in Banadir/Afgoye is an advantage.

• Knowledge of English is required.

First Supervisor: Graduation Coordinator(s)

Second Supervisor: Graduation Advisor

Functionally report to the Hub Coordinators (Save the Children and partners)

Duty Station: Daynile East/Central and Afgoye
