Background
As part of its efforts to support the agricultural sector in Saqlawia and Faluja districts, Anbar Governorate, AGO is implementing a program to improve agricultural productivity and ensure sustainable practices among local farmers. AGO has provided production kits to a selected group of 150 farmers (with a target of 40% women and 40% youth), focusing on enhancing farming productivity, water conservation, and the adoption of efficient nature-based solutions. To ensure the effective use of these kits, AGO will provide hands-on coaching and extension services, to maximize the kits’ benefits, troubleshoot operational challenges, and support the beneficiaries in integrating new technologies into their agricultural practices.
- Objective
The objective of this consultancy is to provide 4 coaching and extension visits to each recipient of the production kits in Saqlawia and Faluja districts. These visits will provide practical, hands-on support and training in the use of the provided tools and technologies, ensuring that beneficiaries maximize the productivity and sustainability of their farming activities. - Scope of Work
The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:
3.1 Coaching Visits
- Provide hands-on guidance on the proper use, operation, and maintenance of the production kits, ensuring that beneficiaries can effectively integrate the new tools into their farming operations.
- Offer technical support on challenges encountered by beneficiaries related to the equipment or farming practices.
- Support farmers in the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices, with a focus on water conservation, soil fertility, and climate-resilient techniques.
- Address and resolve any operational issues with the provided equipment, ensuring that farmers can continue using the tools after the visits.
- Provide tailored recommendations to improve farm productivity, based on the specific needs and context of each beneficiary.
3.2 Training and Support
- Train beneficiaries on the practical integration of the provided tools and technologies into their daily farming routines.
- Promote best agricultural practices through hands-on demonstrations, ensuring that participants gain both theoretical and practical knowledge.
- Offer tailored solutions for issues related to water management, irrigation systems (e.g., drip or sprinkler systems), and use of solar energy kits, as relevant.
3.3 Monitoring and Reporting
- Document each visit and provide a detailed report on the outcomes, challenges, and recommendations for further support.
- Track the effectiveness of the kits and technologies provided, noting improvements in productivity, water usage, and farm practices.
- Collect feedback from beneficiaries on the usefulness and functionality of the kits, identifying areas for further support or adjustments.
- Provide regular updates to the AGO project team, ensuring that all coaching activities align with project goals and timelines.
3.4 Sustainability and Knowledge Transfer
- Ensure that farmers are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to continue using the tools and technologies independently after the coaching visits.
- Provide guidance on long-term sustainability practices, including maintaining equipment, conserving resources, and improving soil health.
- Support the development of farmer-to-farmer knowledge sharing, encouraging beneficiaries to share successful practices and experiences with their peers.
- Deliverables
The consultant will deliver the following outputs:
- Coaching Visit Plans: A detailed plan outlining the objectives, schedule, and specific focus areas for each visit.
- Visit Reports: A report for each beneficiary, documenting the training provided, challenges encountered, and steps taken to address issues.
- Final Report: A comprehensive report summarizing the outcomes of all visits, including improvements in farming practices, challenges faced, and suggestions for future support.
- Sustainability Recommendations: Provide recommendations to ensure the ongoing use and maintenance of the production kits, including suggestions for future training or support.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
Qualifications
The consultant(s) should have the following qualifications and experience:
- Education: A degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in agricultural extension services, training, or coaching, particularly in smallholder farming and sustainable agricultural practices.
- Experience working in post-conflict or rural settings, with an understanding of the challenges faced by farmers in these contexts.
- Experience with modern agricultural technologies, including irrigation systems and renewable energy solutions.
- Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to farmers with varying levels of literacy.
- Strong report-writing skills, with the ability to document and analyze the impact of coaching activities.
- Fluency in Arabic (knowledge of English is an advantage).
- Knowledge of Local Context: Familiarity with the agricultural practices and challenges in Anbar Governorate, Iraq, will be an advantage.

The coaching visits will take place in the Saqlawia and Falluja districts, Anbar Governorate, Iraq. - Reporting
The consultant will report to the Project Manager at AGO. Regular updates on progress, challenges, and next steps will be shared during weekly check-ins.
