Join our friendly South West Coastal Monitoring team based at the University of Plymouth. We
help provide standard, repeatable, long term and cost-effective monitoring of the South West
coast to support FCERM (Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management) decision makers.

This is an exciting role to join a team of coastal process scientists, where you will collect,
appraise and analyse data, supporting coastal processes around our beautiful coastline.

This is a full-time position, however we welcome applications from those who wish to work
part-time or job share.

£26,873 – £32,076 per annum (depending on experience) (*pay award pending which will uplift these)

You are a Teignbridge District Council fit if you:

  • Have an Honours Degree or equivalent in Marine Science, Marine Geography, Civil or Maritime
    Engineering, Oceanography or similar.
  • Have an excellent level of competency in researching and analysing coastal process data.
  • Have IT skills, including GIS (Geographic Information System), particularly in respect to
    coastal processes and management.
  • Are able to undertake independent research and produce detailed analytical reports together
    with advice and recommendations for coastal management authorities.
  • Are able to communicate with a wide variety of audiences and the ability to build and
    maintain effective working relationships with internal and external colleagues.
  • Have excellent knowledge of coastal processes and how this impacts local communities.
  • Have knowledge of coastal management practices.
  • Have the level of fitness necessary to undertake coastal asset surveys involving carrying
    equipment and walking significant distances.

You might have:

  • The ability to code, preferably using Python, but JavaScript, Matlab, SQL expertise are all
    welcome. Database design is also a skill we use.
  • GIS proficiency, particularly ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • Surveying experience using tools of the trade such as GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite
    System), laser scanning or a UAV (uncrewed aerial vehicle, or drone).
  • Experience of working with coastal assets, perhaps even asset inspection.
