JOB SUMMARY

The Vaccine Cold Chain Focal Point is responsible for ensuring the proper storage, handling, and distribution of vaccines, adhering to cold chain requirements. Their duties include monitoring vaccine storage conditions, maintaining accurate records, and coordinating logistics to guarantee vaccine potency and availability. Additionally, provide technical and operational support for the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) supply and cold chain components.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Cold Chain Focal Point has the following responsibilities and duties:

  1. Monitoring and ensuring the correct storage temperatures for vaccines in accordance with established guidelines.
  2. Conducting regular inspections of cold chain equipment to ensure optimal functionality and compliance.
  3. Maintaining accurate records of vaccine inventory, storage conditions, and distribution activities.
  4. Coordinating with healthcare facilities to plan and schedule vaccine deliveries while ensuring cold chain integrity.
  5. Training staff on cold chain protocols, including proper handling and monitoring of vaccines.
  6. Responding promptly to temperature excursions and implementing corrective actions to safeguard vaccine quality.
  7. Preparing and submitting regular reports on vaccine usage, stock levels, and cold chain performance.
  8. Collaborating with vendors and suppliers to procure and maintain cold chain equipment and supplies.
  9. Ensuring the security and confidentiality of vaccine inventory records.
  10. Participating in audits and assessments to verify compliance with cold chain standards.
  11. Providing technical and operational support throughout all stages of the EPI supply and cold chain component of the program.
  12. Contributing to a variety of technical and program transactions, preparing materials/documentation, and complying with UNICEF processes and management systems to support gender-sensitive program planning, results-based planning (RBM), and monitoring and evaluation of results.
  13. Providing technical guidance and support to strengthen the national immunization cold chain and vaccine logistics and supply chain system.
  14. Supporting SIG teams in accurately forecasting and quantifying vaccine needs for NWS.
  15. Consolidating, analyzing, and reporting on vaccine supply and stock status, including wastage.
  16. Developing necessary technical documents on cold chain and immunization supply chains.
  17. Supporting and participating in program planning to advise on cold chain supply requirements, including providing technical advice on specifications/Terms of Reference and facilitating efficient procurement.
  18. Contributing to monthly analysis reports of program activity data and supporting other organizational data requirements for the EPI program.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Should have the following skills, education, and experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in public health, logistics, supply chain management, or a related field.
  2. Strong knowledge of vaccine cold chain requirements and standards.
  3. Proficiency in inventory management and record-keeping systems.
  4. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  5. Effective communication and training abilities.
  6. Ability to work under pressure and manage emergency situations related to vaccine storage and handling.
  7. Experience with data analysis and reporting to support decision-making processes.
  8. Familiarity with healthcare regulations and best practices for vaccine management.
  9. Ability to contribute to program planning, monitoring, and evaluation to support results-based program implementation.
  10. Competence in preparing and analyzing technical documentation related to cold chain and vaccine logistics.
