Collection Manager

WWT Washington Wetland Centre is a customer focussed visitor attraction in Tyne and Wear.

We are looking to recruit a Collection Manager to manage the day-to-day operation of WWT
Washington Wetland Centre’s collection of wildfowl and Asian short clawed otters, ensuring the
highest welfare standards.

The Role

You will confidently develop a team of colleagues and volunteers to routinely meet and exceed
both company and zoo licence standards across all areas of the department. Working in
cooperation with the Grounds and Facilities Manager, you will maintain the highest visitor
standards and experience throughout the collection area. This will include promoting public
engagement by delivering high quality talks and events to visitors about the exhibited species
and maintaining exhibits to the highest standards through vegetation management, signage, water
flow and pest management.

About You

To join as our Collection Manager you’ll need:

  • To be educated to BTEC National Diploma (or equivalent) standard with previous animal
    husbandry experience, especially within aviculture
  • Experience of playing a key role in rearing sensitive bird species
  • Proven line manager experience of employees and/ or volunteers which includes motivating
    and leading team members.
  • Practical maintenance skills including operation of grounds machinery and equipment
  • Great communication skills and the drive to achieve inspiring and engaging visitor
    experiences within our collection
