We are innovators, committed to redesigning and improving public services for the benefit of everyone.As the Commercial Contracts Director – Health, you will play a pivotal role in driving the strategic management of commercial contracts within Serco’s Health Business Unit. Your leadership will be essential in ensuring the sustainable growth and profitability of our operations while managing contractual and commercial risks. This leadership position requires an exceptional leader who can develop and enhance the Business Unit’s ability to identify and appropriately manage contractual and commercial risks and issues both ‘in life’ and importantly supporting Bids and the pursuit of new business.Key Responsibilities

• Provide clear and effective leadership in the management of commercial contracts within the Health Business Unit.
• Identify, assess, and manage contractual and commercial risks to support the Business Unit’s growth objectives.
• Lead and mentor a team of commercial contracts professionals, fostering development and capability across the team.
• Lead and manage negotiations on key contractual matters with customers, partners, Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs), and subcontractors.
• Oversee the management of significant contract changes, including documentation and communication with customers and subcontractors.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with customer commercial teams, SPV managers, partners, and subcontractors.
• Collaborate closely with the Business Unit Legal Director, Finance Director, and other senior stakeholders to deliver the best commercial outcomes.
• Provide expert contracts support for bids and business growth initiatives, including contract reviews and risk assessments.
• Support the Business Unit Managing Director in enhancing Serco’s profile within the industry through proactive customer and industry engagement.
• Ensure the consistent application of Serco’s commercial, contractual, and lifecycle governance policies within the Business Unit.
• Lead critical assurance and review processes on key bids and projects, ensuring compliance with internal standards and external requirements.
• Provide expert support on due diligence projects, acquisitions, divestments, and other high-priority projects as directed by the UK & Europe General Counsel and Business Unit Managing Director.

What you need to do the role

• Significant leadership experience in a senior commercial contract’s role preferably within an outsourced services environment (with a preference for PFI contracts)
• The ability to influence and partner to MD level within a large, complex FTSE 250 business
• Strong experience of balancing commercial, technical and legal requirements to achieve successful outcomes with acceptable risk profiles
• Demonstrable experience of balancing strategic and short-term objectives to deliver exceptional results
• Deep experience of Public Sector outsourcing experience is strongly preferred.
• Persuasive, concise, and clear verbal and written communicator
• Demonstrable commercial acumen and business orientated approach
