Join our Power Commercial team as a Commercial Manager and you’ll deliver complex work that really matters to our business and become involved in some of the biggest infrastructure projects in the industry.About the project: National Grid Electricity Transmission is delivering a vital infrastructure project to reinforce the electricity transmission network between Bramford Substation in Suffolk and Twinstead Tee in Essex. This major scheme involves the construction of a new overhead line and underground cable link, strengthening energy resilience and supporting the UK’s transition to net zero.Location: This is a hybrid role based at our Derby (Raynesway) office, with regular travel to the Bramford to Twinstead Reinforcement project, primarily supporting the project office in Ipswich. The role offers flexibility in line with Balfour Beatty’s Smart Working policy, with a blend of office, site, and home-based working.What you’ll be doing

• Provides commercial input to Value Engineering reviews for different forms of construction.

• To support the review of tenders, including estimates, cost data and contract reviews.

• To manage the preparation of Target Cost for a Project, including the associated risks.

• Manage the preparation of the monthly CVR and associated commercial reports.

• To be able to report and explain the commercial progress to senior divisional staff.

• Establish client supply chain requirements & advise on alternative forms of contract & procurement arrangements.

• Application of legislation and ability to liaise with legal experts.

• Preparation of Estimates & Tender submissions including the interpretation of specifications & preambles.

• Provide support and adherence for the end-to-end Gated Business Lifecycle process (Gates 1-8).

• Co-ordination of buying, accounts, production control/planning, supply chain management & procurement techniques, estimating & surveying functions.

• Management of disallowed cost.

• Give advice on training & development including professional Involvement with Schools & Universities to promote BB as a potential employer and to support sponsored students.

Who we’re looking for

• Leading on collating costs and maximising value on a large project or portfolio of projects.

• Leading on and embedding a mindset within the team of financial and commercial control within a project(s).

• Demonstration of Strategic Change Management.

• In-depth knowledge and experience of procuring and managing supply chain.

• Maintain a Personal Development Plan to ensure continuous personal and professional development.

• Already in possession of or working towards professional accreditation.

• Proactively develop, mentor and coach immediate and wider team members to ensure development of talent and succession within the team.

• Demonstration of working to deadlines including effective delegation, working efficiently and to a high standard.

• Excellent communication skills with all internal and external stakeholders.

• Keen interest and experience in infrastructure projects.

• Demonstration of resilience and determination to succeed (achievement focus).

• Proactively manage opportunities, risks and threats.

• Experience of NEC contracts.
