Duties and Responsibilities

The UN Resident Coordinator Office has five core functions: Strategic planning; Development economics; Partnerships and development finance; Data and results management and reporting; Communications and advocacy. The Resident Coordinator (RC) is the highest ranking representative of the United Nations development system (UNDS) at the country level. The RC leads United Nations country teams and ensures system-wide accountability on the ground for the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and coordinating UN support to countries in their implementation of the 2030 Agenda. This internship is located in the RC office. The Intern reports to the Head of Office and the Economist. The intern will support the team in digital communication and data analysis. Tasks will include: – Creating digital dashboard of the evidence-based Common Country Analysis and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) dashboard in support of a shared understanding by the UN Country Team (UNCT) of sustainable development trends, challenges and opportunities. – Supports communication and organization of RCO-led events. – Supports knowledge management. The intern will also contribute to monitoring and evaluation activities, including tracking key performance indicators, summarizing trends, and preparing progress updates for internal and external stakeholders. Additional tasks may include coordinating with team members to ensure timely submission of information, supporting virtual and in-person events with data and communication inputs, and maintaining accurate documentation of all assigned work for reference and reporting purposes.

 

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Click or tap here to enter text.and MS Teams is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
