Job Description:

Position Overview: WATAD is seeking a creative and dynamic Communication and Media Officer to join our team in Dhi-Qar, Iraq. The Communication and Media Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies, managing media relations, and promoting the organization’s mission and activities through various communication channels.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Communication Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies and plans to effectively promote the organization’s mission, programs, and impact to internal and external stakeholders.

  2. Media Relations: Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers, pitching stories, arranging interviews, and securing media coverage for WATAD’s initiatives and events.

  3. Content Creation: Create compelling content for various communication channels, including press releases, articles, blog posts, social media posts, newsletters, and promotional materials, ensuring consistency and alignment with organizational messaging and branding.

  4. Digital Marketing: Manage the organization’s digital presence, including website content management, social media platforms, email marketing campaigns, and online advertising, to increase visibility and engagement with target audiences.

  5. Public Relations: Organize and coordinate public relations activities, such as press conferences, media briefings, public events, and community outreach initiatives, to raise awareness and enhance the organization’s reputation and credibility.

  6. Internal Communication: Facilitate internal communication channels, including staff newsletters, intranet updates, and staff meetings, to ensure effective communication and engagement among team members.

  7. Graphic Design: Design visually appealing and impactful graphics, infographics, and multimedia materials to support communication campaigns and enhance audience engagement and comprehension.

  8. Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor media coverage and social media metrics, track communication activities and outcomes, and prepare regular reports and analysis to assess the effectiveness of communication efforts and inform future strategies.

  9. Capacity Building: Provide training and support to staff and partners on communication best practices, media relations, storytelling techniques, and digital communication tools to enhance their communication skills and promote organizational goals.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, public relations, or related field; additional training or certification in digital marketing or graphic design is a plus.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in communication, media relations, or public relations, preferably in a non-profit or humanitarian organization.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to create clear, concise, and compelling content for diverse audiences and communication channels.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms, including content management systems, social media management tools, email marketing software, and graphic design software.
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with media professionals, stakeholders, and community members.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a demonstrated ability to develop innovative communication strategies and campaigns.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic (spoken and written) is required.
