Organizational Setting
FAO Mongolia works with the vision “to be a leading, credible and responsive partner in ensuring food and nutrition security of the population”. The office has been coordinating projects and programmes in research, capacity building, natural resources management, technology transfer, food and agriculture policy, livestock production systems management, emergency and post crisis management, forestry information, statistics, food security and nutrition, emergency response operations, crop production system management, and food quality and safety.
Reporting Lines
The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of FAO Representative in Mongolia and project team leader and in close collaboration with OCC branches and focal points.
Technical Focus
The incumbent will support the FAO Mongolia program and projects ensuring that relevant communication, visibility and branding materials are developed and disseminated to target groups through relevant media and network channels.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Collaborate with FAO representative, program teams and technical colleagues at FAO Mongolia country office, Regional Office and HQ, to ensure that relevant communication, visibility and branding materials (such as success stories, briefing notes, Human Interest Stories, picture stories, videos, project portfolio, etc.) are developed and disseminated to target groups through relevant media and network channels;
- Assist to identify appropriate communication activities for the FAO Mongolia program and project activities;
- Develop and maintain contact information, materials and relationships with journalists and media outlets (print, TV, radio, web etc.) within and outside Mongolia to increase visibility of FAO Mongolia in the media;
- Archive communication materials, including digital, such as publications, project briefs, press releases and clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources etc;.
- Assist in organizing and generating public support for special events and campaigns to promote strategic organizational goals;
- Monitor and evaluate impact of communication materials and advocacy events/campaigns to target audiences;
- Scan the external landscape for trends, preferences, patterns, ways of working and concepts than can be translated into better outcomes within FAO’s mandate;
- Compile and compose FAO Mongolia annual report with engaging content for publication and dissemination.
- Prepare a detailed and feasible communication strategy and work plan to raise government and public awareness of vegetable production and consumption in Mongolia
- Implement the communication work plan in collaboration with public and private partners, meeting FAO and donor communication guidelines and parameters;
- Build partnerships with relevant stakeholders including farmers and private sector stakeholder;
- Assist in the preparation and updating of briefs, speeches, talking points, presentations, brochures, infographics and public information materials related to assigned project;
- Undertake field visits to document project field activities, gather stakeholder perceptions and capture knowledge attitudes and practices;
- Proactively seek out good beneficiary feature story possibilities for TV, newspaper and journals;
- Identify training requirements in communications, and develop and implement a training programme for FAO staff, the project staff and related stakeholders;
- Translate a variety of materials including speeches, press releases, brochures and reports produced by the projects and national consultants, into English or Mongolian as required;
- Liaison with the Office of Communication (OCC) will be maintained, either directly or through an agreed focal point/coordinator, to ensure compliance with OCC standards, appropriate review and clearance processes.
- All communication materials will follow FAO clearance processes and comply with FAO standards, including:
- Further guidance regarding FAO communications, policies and procedures can be found through the FAO intranet, OCC section.
- Any other duties as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
- A university degree in journalism, communication, public relations, economics, business administration, translation and interpreting of English, or other relevant disciplines,
- At least 6 years of work experience in communications and social media,
- Working knowledge (level C) of English,
- National of Mongolia.
Technical/Functional Skills
- An excellent command of English is required as are proven writing and reporting skills,
- The ability to operate under pressure and good interpersonal skills,
- Social media experience and ability to utilize video tools is an advantage.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills,
- Proactive approach to improve the visibility of the FAO Mongolia activities,
- Experience in awareness-raising activities,
- Strong writing, composition and editing skills in both English and Mongolian.
