With the aim of strengthening the team in the communication and information sector to ensure effective management of programs and projects implemented by UNESCO, the recruitment of an Assistant is planned. responsible for Communication for his project based in Kisangani. The post holder will be placed under the authority and general supervision of the Administrator of the UNESCO National Office in Kinshasa, the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator based in Kisangani and in close collaboration with the Specialist of the Communication sector of the Kinshasa office, and the entire Yangambi project team. The post holder is expected to demonstrate initiative to proactively respond to assigned tasks, with minimal supervision. It is essential to demonstrate analysis and discernment in order to manage urgent requests which may arise on a regular basis, either within the project for which UNESCO is coordinating in Yangambi, or in relation to other programs of the Kinshasa office. In this capacity, the post holder will be responsible for carrying out the following tasks:
- Implement the communication strategy of the UNESCO office in the DRC in general and in the Tshopo province in particular, centered in particular around the activities of the Yangambi project, the visibility of the Organization and the major initiatives implemented within the framework of the Yangambi project, all in accordance with UNESCO’s communication guidelines;
- Provide the necessary technical expertise and support the implementation of UNESCO’s communication strategy in the DRC;
- Ensure good visibility of the Organization’s programs and projects at the international, national and provincial level, covering project activities and results at all levels and through information dissemination channels;
- Produce articles specific to each activity carried out by the organization and within the framework of the project, then disseminate them through the organization’s website and in social networks after amendment by the editorial team of the office Kinshasa
- Develop and distribute a quarterly newsletter covering the activities of the UNESCO project implemented in Yangambi through the use of appropriate graphic and visual design tools in order to ensure better visibility of the Organization’s actions among the general public and of all partners and actors in socio-economic and cultural development;
- Design and distribute the quarterly magazine “Parlons de Yangambi” which is a showcase to present to the world the activities that the partners carry out effectively within the framework of the project, using the appropriate graphic and visual tools;
- Collect, organize, analyze, and periodically disseminate with the agreement of the Project Coordinator, all essential information relating to project activities;
- Produce audiovisual content and communication and visibility supports for the project (flyers, business cards, roll-ups, posters for all project activities, stickers with the logos of the donor, UNESCO and its partners;
- Transmit periodically relevant information to the National Office in Kinshasa for publication in the online platform and associated social media (Twitter and Facebook);
- Establish a media strategy and action plan, launch communication campaigns in relation to it; all UNESCO project activities with the media;
- Propose and organize press conferences around important events of the organization and the project in the Tshopo province;
- Analyze the effectiveness of media coverage and prepare reports; to improve the effectiveness of communication around the project
- Facilitate the establishment of contacts with the media (local, national and international) and organize media campaigns, if necessary, around the projects, to promote the capitalization and dissemination of the experiences;
- Supervise the production and distribution of information and communication materials taking into account the UNESCO visual charter and coordinate the model approval process, printing and distribution procedures;
- Perform all other tasks related to the missions and the achievement of the objectives of the project and the Organization.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education :
- University degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in journalism, communications, and public relations, international relations, sociology, law or in another relevant field
Professional experience :
- Have at least two (2) years of professional experience in the field of communications, journalism and/or public relations;
- Have in-depth skills in communication and information techniques (including the use of Web and ICT supports);
- Have good synthesis, writing and communication skills.
Languages
- Excellent knowledge (spoken and written) of French and good knowledge of English.
