Job organizational context:
Under the Cuba Office of the Representative section and with the supervision of the Communications Officer at level NO1, the Digital Communications Assistant, GS-5, will support the implementation and monitoring of UNICEF Cuba’s Digital Communications Strategy and the daily management of its digital platforms.
Key function, accountabilities and related duties/tasks
- Development of digital communication plans with priority on strategic topics and key audiences.
- Provide support in the development of a social media strategy and responsible for its implementation.
- Support to the strengthening of the digital presence of UNICEF and position its key messages in digital media according to the priorities of the Country Office and UNICEF’s visibility and branding requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of the CO’s work plan, as well as develop, design, promote content and administration of the Cuba Country Office digital platforms.
- Keep UNICEF Cuba website updated with relevant, self-produced information and from partners and overall information on the operational context.
- Manage and monitor Cuba Country Office digital communication channels, and report on related digital media KPIs.
- Support for the production, review, editing and dissemination of multimedia content on digital channels.
- Provide editorial support for technical and/or promotional materials produced by the Country Office, including content for UNICEF’s regional and global newsletters.
- Moderation of interactions on UNICEF’s digital platforms and channels.
- Monitoring of own content, as well as mentions the organization receives in other media and social networks.
- Prepare monthly reports with key findings and recommendations to improve UNICEF Cuba’s digital communication.
- Follow the social media accounts of related United Nations agencies, donors, counterparts, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors, to identify topics of special interest or potential synergies.
- Support communication campaigns on digital platforms, through creative and innovative ideas to contribute to defined objectives.
- Assistance in identifying, selecting, supervising and evaluating audiovisual and editorial service providers. Updating a contact database of providers of these services.
- Support in the organization of the Country Office’s multimedia resource bank.
- Identification of new opportunities to continuously improve UNICEF Cuba’s digital presence and the reach of its content and approaches.
- Assist in data collection and analysis according to the indicators outlined in the Digital Communication Strategy and other key indicators reported by the Country Office.
Impact of results
- The efficiency and effectiveness of support provided by the Communication Assistant to the development, implementation and monitoring of communication facilitates the delivery of concrete and sustainable results for the respective section, which in turn enhances the offices and UNICEF’s capacity in helping the most vulnerable children.
- The incumbent reports to Communication Officer (Level 1). The supervisor defines the parameters of assignments and outline approaches to problem areas. Work is reviewed while in progress, and upon completion. Incumbent operates within rules and regulations.

The following minimum requirements:
- Education: Completion of secondary education (pre-university school or technical school) supplemented with university courses in Social Communication, Journalism, Digital Communications, Social Media Management or relevant field will be an asset.
- Work Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience in digital communication, including different platforms.
- Language Requirements: Fluent in Spanish and English.
