Context

This assignment aims to increase the effective visibility of FAO’s humanitarian, resilience, and development programming in Rwanda regarding external and internal communication.
The communication assistant will support in developing and implementing a national communication strategy and work plan designed to enhance FAO’s visibility and reputation in the country and wider region. She/he will assist in ensuring a high standard of quality, fit-for-purpose content to engage key audiences in alignment with FAO’s strategic objectives and global communication standards and best practices.

Task description

Under direct supervision of the Head of Communication and overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Rwanda, the communication assistant will undertake the following tasks:
Key tasks:
-Collaborate with management to develop and implement an effective communications strategy based on our target audience.
-Write, edit, and distribute content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, speeches, and other marketing material communicating the organization’s activities, products, and/or services.
-Respond to media inquiries, arrange interviews, and act as the organization’s MC during the event
-Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists and maintain a media database.
-Seek opportunities to enhance the brand’s reputation and coordinate publicity events as required.
-Maintain records of media coverage and collate analytics and metrics.
-Manage conflict as it arises and escalate to management.
Specific tasks:
-Provide advice and expertise to senior management, line managers, and other pro-gram staff by anticipating and resolving communications/public relations issues/problems.
-Lead the communication strategy, planning, and content development and coordinated FAO Rwanda’s communication and advocacy activities.
-Manage the content calendar for FAO Rwanda, ensuring timely delivery of strategic content across national, regional, and global platforms, including web, social media, and digital platforms, in close coordination with OCC and RAF.
-Research, write, develop, and produce multimedia communication materials for web, digital, and social media outreach in English and Kinyarwanda.
-Maintain news media contact list and lead on media relations and outreach for FAO Rwanda.
-Manage visibility plans for projects and donors, ensuring all projects have a visibility and communications plan.
-Collect multimedia content and impact stories from field projects and locations and maintains a visual and audio footage archive/assessment management system for them.
-Oversea contracts with and coordinate work done by communication product and services providers, ensuring adherence to agreed work plans and the quality of out-puts.
-Engage with OCC and FAO headquarters to identify new areas for communications collaboration.
-Participate in and represents FAO at UN group communication (UNCG) in Rwanda.
