The Position of the Communication Associate at the G-6 level is to be used in a UNICEF Country office, in the Communication Section. This SJD covers a broad range of functions, however, depending on the context, the incumbent may focus on all, some, or only one or two areas with great depth. In addition, there may be additional functions not mentioned in the SJD. If this is the case, this can be made clear in work plans and/or individual performance plans. You will report to the Chief of Communication, who is at Level P4.

How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision and guidance of the Chief of Communication, you will support the Communication in undertaking a range of communication, financial, and administrative support functions to help develop, implement, and monitor their work plan, ensuring effective and timely delivery that is consistent with UNICEF rules and regulations. 

You will work in close collaboration with a range of staff, external partners and agency counterparts in support of the section strategy and delivery. You will provide regular feedback on the status of activities through monitoring milestones and advises on improvements to keep activities on track.

 Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  1. Under the general supervision of the Chief of Communication, performs a variety of information collection and dissemination, monitoring, technical and administrative services of moderate scope and difficulty on support of programme related advocacy, public information and communication programme activities.

    1. –      Assists the Chief of Section with:
      1. briefing materials for use on official trips or meetings;
      2. administrative and travel arrangements
      3. liaison duties internally, with other units/sections, as well as externally.
      4. Accompanies supervisor or communication staff on selected missions for support purposes. 
      5. Supports the Chief of Section in arranging internal and communication meetings and mailings of communication materials.
    2. –      Carries out effective financial planning and monitoring support for the communication section including VISION tasks. This includes but not limited to:
      1. Closely monitors the section budget, register and track grant allotments, prepare periodic reports on expenditures and provide regular monitoring of budget and financial expenditures;
      2. Reflect workplans structure;
      3. Support in ensuring compliance to donor’s requirements and related reporting processes
      4. Complete Funding requirements forecast
      5. Payments to different contract and partner are issued
      6. Issuing Sales Order and Contracts as required on Vision
      7. Summarizes information reflecting current obligation and future program and /or budgetary implications;
      8. Prepare payment requests and contracts
    3. –      Ensure availability of branded material and inventory regularly updates
    4. –      Support all initiatives launch, this includes review of creative concepts, production and provides support in developing content, stories, press releases when appropriate.
    5. –      Supports preparation and management of events and meetings as needed
    6. –      Supports supervisor with overall organization matters and all types of clearance processes within the Communication section
    7. –      Follow up with all IEC materials needed, in collaboration with all sections
    8. –      Support procurement of the unit supplies requests and services
    9. –      Performs other duties as required.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have the below requirement:

Education:

Completion of secondary education in administration, reporting or communication is required.

Work Experience:

A minimum of six years of progressive work experience in administration, reporting or communication is required.

Relevant experience in a UN system agency or international organization is considered as an asset.

Language Proficiency:

 Fluency in Arabic and English is required.

 Remarks:

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Appointments are also subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be cancelled.
