This position is located primarily in communication Unit under overall guidance Head of Communication. The team has identified a growing need for effective communication across various language barriers. To ensure accurate and efficient exchange of information, the team aims to establish a comprehensive framework for interpretation, translation, and editing services. This will enhance the overall quality and accessibility of documents and reports, enabling seamless communication within and outside the organizat ion.

The position is designed to provide high-quality interpretation services for meetings, conferences, and other official gatherings to ensure effective cross-language communication. The post holder is also expected to facilitate accurate and timely translation of various documents, particularly large reports, to enable broader accessibility and understanding. And he/she is expected to enhance the quality and coherence of English language documents through professional editing, ensuring clarity and consistency in content.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Communication Analyst will provide the interpretation and translation services on an ongoing basis, adhering to the specific timelines of the events and document submissions. Editing services will follow a predefined schedule to ensure timely completion without compromising quality.

Key duties and responsibilities includes:

Translation Services focusing on the following results:

  • Translation of large reports, official documents, and correspondences including technical documents.
  • Linguistic and cultural adaptation to  ensure accurate conveyance of  messages.
  • Production of 100% accurate translation from Indonesia language to English or vice versa of various documents, written/ recorded speeches, talking points, presentations, brochures, fact sheets, reports, website content, press releases, etc. as assigned b UNDP.
  • Utilization of the appropriate terminology considering the style and nuances of the original text. Areas frequently covered by such documents include legal, public relations and Business, and technical texts, etc.
  • Corrections as required by UNDP or  its  partners and re-submission  of corrected text within the   agreed timeframe.

Interpretation Services focusing on the following results:

  • Provision of the consecutive and simultaneous interpretation during project events (ceremonies, workshops, webinars, trainings, conferences, informative community events, etc.) and meetings (technical working groups meetings, meetings between international advisors/experts or UNDP representatives and local counterparts, etc.).

English Editing Services focusing on the following results:

  • Comprehensive editing of reports, documents, and presentations for clarity and coherence.
  • Proofreading for grammatical accuracy, style, and formatting consistency.
  • Identification and mitigation of potential risks associated with language interpretation, translation, and editing services.
  • Contingency plans to address any unforeseen challenges or delays.

Quality Assurance focusing on the following results:

  • Effective implementation of quality control measures to guarantee the accuracy, precision and consistency of all language-related services.
  • High quality check and proofreading of translation ensuring no typographical errors in the final text.
  • Regular evaluations and feedback mechanisms to assess the effectiveness of the provided services.

Supports knowledge building and knowledge sharing focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice
  • Ensure active participation for learning and knowledge sharing in gender analysis and gender mainstreaming.
  • Provision of advice to colleagues to use gender sensitive language in translation.

  • Inclusive approach is reflected within all actions and implementations, in that sense an enabling and accessible setup in various senses such as disability gender language barrier is created;

The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
  • Secondary education is required.
  • University Degree (Bachelor’s degree) in social studies or other fields will be given due consideration, but it is not a requirement.
Experience:
  • Minimum 7 years (with Secondary Education) or 4 years (with Bachelor’s degree) of relevant working experience in interpretation and translation services, programme or management support in an international organization and/or a non-governmental organization and/or the private sector
  • Experience in performing translation services is required
  • Experience in Consecutive Interpretation Services/ Simultaneous Interpretation Services is required
  • Ability to work with a multidisciplinary and multicultural team
  • Ability to communicate and give a good presentation, report, and able to work independently and in a team
  • Goal oriented, learning attitude, and able to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to get things done while exercising good judgement. Meets goals and quality criteria for delivery of products and services
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of professionals towards common goals
  • Previous experience with a multilateral or international organization is helpful but not mandatory
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, good knowledge and experience in handling of web-based management systems
  • Solid experience in report writing, editing, drafting. Working experience with UNDP, other UN agency, international organizations/projects in communication field will be considered as a strong asset
  • Experience to manage workload individually and collaborate with a wide range of colleagues while meeting deadlines is desirable
  • Excellent analytical aptitude and strong communication skills is desirable

Required Languages:

  • Fluency in Indonesia and English is required.
