OUR MISSION: TURNING DATA INTO COEXISTENCE

At United Tansania, science drives everything we do. Our work focuses on:

  • Long-term hyena population research using photo-identification, camera traps, GIS mapping, and GPS technology
  • Human-carnivore conflict mitigation, informed by real-time field data and local knowledge
  • A One Health approach, linking wildlife conservation, community wellbeing, and ecosystem resilience

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are growing and are looking for a dynamic Communication & Development Manager to help bring our research to life, expand our partnerships, and secure the resources needed to protect the Lake Eyasi Clans.

This is not a desk job. It is a hands-on role at the intersection of science, storytelling, and strategy, designed for someone who wants responsibility, creative freedom, and real-world impact.

POSITION: DEVELOPMENT & COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

You will play a key role in shaping how our work is seen, supported, and sustained—by donors, partners, media, and local communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication & Storytelling

  • Turn field research into compelling stories for social media, websites, newsletters, and media outlets
  • Develop signature formats such as hyena clan profiles, photo-ID features, and “Life at the Den” updates
  • Support national and international PR efforts and strengthen our public visibility

Fundraising & Development

  • Create and manage study sponsorships (hyena clans, GPS-collaring missions, camera trap networks)
  • Write targeted grant proposals for biodiversity monitoring and conflict mitigation projects
  • Communicate impact clearly and transparently to supporters

Partnerships & Coordination

  • Build meaningful collaborations with universities, NGOs, conservation organizations, and donors
  • Coordinate with TAWIRI and local authorities to align communication with national conservation priorities

Digital Presence

  • Manage and continuously improve our website and online donation platforms
  • Ensure supporters can clearly see how their contributions translate into conservation outcomes

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Background in conservation, communications, environmental sciences, media, or a related field
  • Strong ability to translate scientific or technical information into engaging public-facing content
  • Experience with social media management, analytics, and basic design tools (Canva and/or Adobe)
  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or partnership development is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills in English; Swahili is a strong advantage
  • Independent, adaptable, and comfortable working in a remote field environment

LOCATION & CONDITIONS

  • Location: Lake Eyasi Bush Camp, Endamaghan, Karatu District, Northern Tanzania
  • Field Work: Regular time in the bush camp, with coordination and representation in Arusha
  • Start Date: Flexible / as soon as possible
  • Commitment: Long-term preferred
  • Compensation: Accommodation and basic living costs provided, satellite internet

This role is ideal for purposedriven professionals seeking responsibility, growth, and meaningful field experience

READY TO JOIN THE CLAN?

If you want your work to matter, your stories to have impact, and your days to begin where conservation actually happens, we would love to hear from you.

Please send the following to unitedtansania@gmail.com:

  • CV or Portfolio
  • “Hyena Pitch” (short cover letter or 60-second video explaining your motivation and vision)
  • One content sample demonstrating storytelling, communication, or partnership work

Help us turn research into action—and secure the future of the Lake Eyasi Clans

When you apply, please indicate that you are responding to the posting on Conservation Job Board.
