Background

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are core principles at UNDP:  we value diversity as an expression of the multiplicity of nations and cultures where we operate, we foster inclusion as a way of ensuring all personnel are empowered to contribute to our mission, and we ensure equity and fairness in all our actions. Taking a ‘leave no one behind’ approach to our diversity efforts means increasing representation of underserved populations. People who identify as belonging to marginalized or excluded populations are strongly encouraged to apply. Learn more about working at UNDP including our values and inspiring stories.

UNDP does not tolerate sexual exploitation and abuse, any kind of harassment, including sexual harassment, and discrimination. All selected candidates will, therefore, undergo rigorous reference and background checks.

UNDP is the UN development agency that is charged with helping countries achieve the simultaneous eradication of extreme poverty, and significant reduction of inequalities and exclusion using a sustainable human development approach. To this end, UNDP partners with people at all levels of society to help build resilient nations that can withstand crises, drive, and sustain the kind of growth that improves the quality of life for everyone.

In Eritrea, UNDP has been an important sustainable development partner for more than 25 years.

The Country Office activities started with a Liaison Office in March 1992. After a successful UN-supervised referendum in 1993, the Liaison Office was upgraded into a fully-fledged Country Office in January 1994, since then UNDP has worked closely with the Government of Eritrea as a trusted partner.

UNDP Eritrea enjoys a strong partnership with the government and is keen to strengthen its position as a partner of choice, UNDP Eritrea promotes a more inclusive economy and society benefiting from shared sustainable and human-centered development, thereby breaking the cycle of poverty and vulnerabilities by localizing global knowledge and innovation for sustainable development, particularly in the areas of Strategic Governance and Inclusive and Sustainable Development, Gender Equality, and women’s empowerment.

Guided by the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework Between the Government of the State of Eritrea and the United Nations 2022 – 2026 (developed in close partnership with the Government of the State of Eritrea), the UNDP Country Office will seek to enhance the delivery as one, further strengthening the position and the brand of the UNDP as a driver of change in the Sustainable Development Agenda.

Sustainable Development Goals

Having the priorities of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation fully aligned with the national priorities and recognizing the SDG as a national priority, UNDP Eritrea is prioritizing aligning its communication to the SDGs. This will be done through visual branding on programme articles posted on the web and social media as well as publications. Creative engagements to communicate the SDGs will be identified to complement the SDG localization efforts underway.

Gender Equality

UNDP Eritrea will use gender-sensitive language in its communication of its development interventions and corporate messaging and promote monitored gender equality results from projects. UNDP Eritrea will use gender-sensitive and non-discriminatory language in all of its communications, including development interventions and corporate messaging. It will also regularly promote monitored results about women’s empowerment and gender equality. All communication will also ensure diversity, equality, and inclusion in both visual and written outputs.

Youth Empowerment and Promotion of Innovations

UNDP Eritrea’s communication will also highlight the country office’s intervention in the areas of promoting youth innovation and digital technologies.

UNDP will place importance on the role of innovation by implementing initiatives and creation a platform for youth to express their innovative ideas and translate that into practical new and improved products.
