UNICEF in China promotes policies and laws that better deliver on children’s rights. We have about 100 staff members working with the Government of China and other partners to ensure that the benefits of the country’s development reach the most impoverished children. And we share what we learn with others.

The Communication Section works to put the rights and well-being of the most disadvantaged children at the heart of social, political and economic agendas: to support shifts in public policies, investments and legislation; to fuel social engagement through campaigning, partnerships and support to social movements; and to increase public and private resources for children.

How can you make a difference?

We are seeking 2 interns to support our content development, social media engagement, media monitoring and advocacy campaigns. Specifically, you will:

  • Track the coverage of UNICEF and issues related to children in the media and social media
  • Support the production of communication materials that are appealing to young audience, including the facilitation of focus group discussions with children and young people before publishing as needed
  • Adapt UNICEF’s global communication materials into Chinese versions that suit the local context
  • Contribute to the drafting of human-interest stories and blogs
  • Support the management of UNICEF’s visual image archives and write photo captions
  • Support the planning and content development of UNICEF’s advocacy campaigns
  • Contribute insight to UNICEF internal discussions on risk management and brand protection in public communication in China
  • Provide professional support on other aspects of communication as required to inform country team, media and partners

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Be a Chinese national.
  • Be senior undergraduate or current graduate student, or within one year of graduation, preferably majored in Advertising, Communication, Media Studies, Journalism, Film/Multimedia/Animation Production, or related fields.
  • Have strong academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records, or, if not available, a reference letter from an academic supervisor.
  • Have strong interest and prior experience in writing, short video editing, be social media savvy and able to produce social media friendly content; Please attach samples of your previous work with your application if you have.
  • Have no immediate relatives working in any UNICEF offices.
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin is required.
  • Be a self-starter who is open-minded and able to take constructive feedback.
  • Be able to work in a multicultural environment.
