Duties and Responsibilities
– Design and lead the implementation of an annual communication plan; – Develop, implement and manage the supporting tools and services needed to disseminate knowledge and information about the Institute’s work (newsletters, current affairs, press releases, etc.); – Gathering, documenting and disseminating (internally and externally) information about the Institute’s work and results; – Work with internal clients to help disseminate knowledge and best practice to support the programme via press releases, contemporary internet channels such as website, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook – Systematically organise media coverage before, during and after face-to-face and online training activities using press releases, YouTube video coverage and audio/video interviews with key stakeholders broadcast on social networks, radio and television; – Promote IDEP activities by producing communication products aimed at well-targeted audiences and stakeholder mapping, which will include fact sheets and brochures; – Coordinate the production and dissemination of the Institute’s impact-oriented annual report in collaboration with various divisions; – Participate in the design of other technical reports of the Institute to various stakeholders. – As required, participate in Divisional and Managerial meetings to provide assistance and advice on communication and outreach. – Ensure that the IDEP website is redesigned and updated on a daily basis. In this regard, work alongside web developers and ECA specialists to ensure the marketing and communication tools essential to the Divisions’ website and workspaces; – Brainstorm and formulate key messages to be used to promote the Institute’s visibility, brand, awareness and identity to key stakeholders; – Carry out any other tasks assigned by the IDEP Director such as the preparation of various communications and editorial support for the Director’s speeches and reports.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in journalism, mass communication, public relations, information management or social science is required. In lieu of Master degree an undergraduate university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be considered acceptable. At least four years of progressively responsible experience in journalism, communications or a related field is required. Demonstrated understanding and experience of developing and leading communications and public engagement and social networking programmes is desirable Established experience in communications, including stakeholder mapping and engagement is desirable. Ability to extract and present key communications messages from technical documents and reports, knowledge and experience in social media management (Facebook, Twitter, blogs) is a distinct advantage. Ability to conduct advanced research and compile best practices in the field of communications and media is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this consultant position, fluency (written and oral) in French is required. Knowledge of English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language would be an asset.
