UNICEF Syria’s communication section works to communicate and advocate for the most disadvantaged children in Syria and develop a coordinated, consistent, and cutting-edge communication and public advocacy approach to show the situation on the ground, highlight the work the organization, together with partners, is doing and demonstrate the impact it is making.
The purpose of the Digital Communication Officer is to provide support to the communication section to identify, collect, develop and post compelling communication content on UNICEF Syria key priorities. A strong focus will be on coordinating website update and social media content (posts, quotes, captions, photo essays, stories, etc.) production across UNICEF Syria’s platforms as well as coordinating the production with photographers/videographers. The incumbent will be responsible for daily media monitoring.
Main Responsibilities and Tasks:
- With Chief of Communication section supervision and guidance, and in close coordination with the communication focal point(s) for the field offices, help to identify, collect, draft and post compelling stories and other products on Syria Country Office priorities and response efforts.
- Support the Communication section in undertaking communication content collection missions in field locations. Contribute to preparation of human interest stories that demonstrate how UNICEF supported activities make an impact in the lives of individuals, families, and communities. Assist in conducting interviews, collecting quotes, and developing stories, social media content, etc.
- Coordinate social media content production across UNICEF Syria’s platforms (incl. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, launch LinkedIn) by drafting and posting, and developing topic or event specific social media packages and other content that meets UNICEF’s standards and acknowledges donor contributions.
- Ensure daily monitoring of international, regional, and national media vis-à-vis UNICEF response and children’s issues in general, such as grave violations of child rights.
- Closely liaise with all relevant internal stakeholders to ensure high quality results and appropriateness of country specific communication materials, activities, processes, and messages.

Minimum requirements:
- Education: University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Social Sciences or a related field.
Work Experience:
- At least one year of practical, professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media, or interactive digital media.
- Proven social media management experience.
- Background/familiarity with emergency situations.
- Skills: MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) applications working proficiency.
- Language Requirements: Fluency in English and Arabic.
