This position is one of the core-predictable, country-presence positions for WHO country office whose objectives is to strengthen WHO’s strategic and operational presence in country by using the objective criteria.
Under the overall guidance of the WHO Representative, and inclose coordination with the WHO Country Office as well as the Regional Office,the incumbent will be responsible for the following:1. In coordination with the regional and/or headquarters communication focal points, support the implementation of communication strategies and plans to support awareness of the programmes and achievements ofWHO at country level. Support the implementation of the WHO corporate (global and regional) communication strategy.2.Develop and implement annual communication action plans for the WHO South Africa, ensuring all communication and visibility efforts are conducted efficiently, timely, and with high quality.3.Lead the development of the annual report for WHO South Africa, coordinating the gathering of information, overseeing the report’sdesign and content, and ensuring timely publication and distribution.4.Identify marketable subjects/success stories and developcommunications and advocacy products including for partnerships’ initiatives.5.Support the optimal outreach and dissemination to target audiences in suitable media channels and platforms, including social media. 6.Organize media events, campaigns, and media technical briefings, coordinating between media and WHO experts, as required. 7.Build and maintain productive networks and contacts withthe press/media and key, national communication counterparts to ensure positiveand optimal coverage of WHO’s work. 8.Support the development/updating of content andstakeholder linkages for the WHO country office website and (ii) the sensitivedesign and delivery of effective social-media engagements. 9.Support regular media monitoring, tracking audience/targetgroup perceptions of the organization. Propose risk-mitigation communications.10.Collaborate with national stakeholders, development andother strategic partners and United Nations Information Officers, to encouragethe production and dissemination of information on national health strategies.Advocate for organizational priorities and represent WHO in the United NationsCommunication Group.11.Support specialized emergency or multi hazard riskcommunications, social mobilization, and advocacy plans, during public healthcrises, emergencies, and outbreaks. 12.Coordinate and deliver communication andmedia-sensitization-related training for WHO Country Office staff.13.Performs all other related tasks as assigned by thesupervisor.
Essential: A University degree (bachelor’s) in a relevant field (suchas communication, journalism, marketing, health communications, political science or international relations)
Desirable: Formal qualification in public health. Courses in communication techniques and/orgraphic design, visual language in the use of social media. Training in riskcommunication.
Essential: At least two (02) years of practical experience working in journalism and/or a communications expert for a major national or international organization.
Desirable: Studies or experience-based knowledge of informationmanagement, information systems, communications techniques and media relations;⢠Excellent knowledge of photography ⢠Excellent knowledge of script/videoediting tools ⢠Demonstrated experience in graphic design and video editing

Desirable:
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 50,377 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 1209 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
