UNICEF Pacific is hiring a Communication Officer on fixed-term appointment to be based in Suva, Fiji. Under the general supervision of Chief Communication, the Communications Officer (NOA) works alongside with the Digital Communication Officer (NOB) by supporting in planning, designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating digital communication initiatives to support the advocacy, communication, and digital strategies. The Communication Officer (NOA) is also responsible for monitoring donor visibility requirements across the Pacific. The purpose is to get children’s and women’s issues into the public domain, strengthen political will in support of UNICEF’s mission and objectives in the Pacific, and enhance the organization’s credibility and brand.

In the Pacific we work in Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu: These 14 Pacific island countries are home to 2.3 million people, including 1.2 million children and youth, living on more than 660 islands and atolls stretching across 17.2 million square kilometers of the Pacific Ocean, an area comparable to the combined size of the United States of America and Canada. Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu are classified as Fragile States according to World Bank/OECD criteria.

How can you make a difference? 

  1. Digital Communication: Digital communication products and materials are planned and produced for website, digital platforms, social media and promotional campaigns in line with Pacific, regional and global priorities, as set out in UNICEF Pacific’s advocacy, communication and digital strategies.
  2. Donor and visibility management: Donor visibility requirements are monitored and implemented to ensure timely production and dissemination of creative content, ensuring alignment with the digital communications planning tools.
  3. Digital analysis, monitoring and evaluation: Timely monitoring and evaluation of activities of social media platforms, website traffic and trends are undertaken according to the expected goals and supported to ensure quality, effectiveness, and relevance of UNICEF Pacific digital communication efforts.
  4. General communications support: The Communications team is supported to ensure alignment with UNICEF Pacific’s advocacy, communications and digital strategies

Minimum requirements:

Education: 

  • University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field.

Work Experience: 

  • One year of practical professional work experience in digital communications including social media management.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation experience preferred.
  • Knowledge/experience of digital analytics applications is preferred.
  • Background/familiarity with content management system is also preferred.
  • Experience in content development for social media and websites is desired

Language Requirements: 

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Desirables:

  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency.

This position has been assessed as an elevated risk role for Child Safeguarding purposes as it is either a role with direct contact with children, a role that works directly with identifiable children’s data, a safeguarding response role, or an assessed risk role. Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
