About us and the role (overview)

As the peak body for Victorian sexual assault and harmful sexual behaviours services, Sexual Assault Services Victoria (SASVic) provides leadership in preventing and responding to sexual assault. This is a time of significant growth for SASVic, responding to profound changes in community attitudes to and government focus on sexual violence. We have changed from a network (CASA Forum) to a peak body, expanded our membership, taken on new projects, significantly expanded our team and are working to shape landmark state reforms. We are now looking for additional staff so we can better drive policy and practice change.

As Communications and Campaign Officer, you will play a pivotal role in making sure our members know about and can help shape policy and practice around sexual violence. You will provide content for communication channels with the leaders of our services, our specialist workforce, our partners, policy and decision makers, and our community.

About the role

Working closely with the Communication and Campaigns Team Leader, and the Policy and Advocacy Manager, your role will be to deliver and optimise two-way communication channels for leaders of our services, the specialist workforce, as well as partners, decision-makers, and our community. This will include identifying and writing content, using content management systems (CMS), social media and marketing platforms, and managing contact lists through our CRM. Additionally, you will provide support in developing other materials for campaigns and events.

Your work will be fundamental to SASVic being able to consult well with our members, so that they feel influential, effective and able to affect powerful change.

The role is 0.6 FTE (3 days/week), ideally Tuesday-Thursday, with all staff working in the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Interviews for this role will be conducted the week commencing the 20th November.

The position is for 10 months with the possibility to extend.

Salary range is $71,000 – 96,000 pro rata, depending on experience, plus salary packaging.

Key relationships

You will report to the Communication and Campaigns Team Leader, work closely with the Policy & Advocacy Manager, as well as our Operations Team and develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with all SASVic staff and SASVic members to achieve our shared aims.

Roles and functions

You will do this by:

  • Providing and coordinating regular high-quality communications for service leaders and specialist members, as well as partners and other members of the community
  • Assisting with the delivery of multi-channel campaigns to call for structural and systemic change
  • Supporting teams across SASVic to develop content for public-facing and membership communications and occasional events
  • Using tools available as part of the Zoho One platform, including maintaining communication lists through the CRM and reporting on and evaluating communications for optimisation
  • Developing strong working relationships with SASVic members and key stakeholders as required
  • Participating in organisational development activities required to support the growth of SASVic

What you bring to the role

  • Relevant formal qualifications or experience in communications
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to synthesise complex information, an understanding of systems and willingness to explore and debate issues from multiple perspectives
  • Very strong writing, editing and publishing skills
  • Confidence and experience using a variety of communications platforms including email marketing platforms CRMs content management systems& social media
  • A collaborative, positive and accountable working style
  • Excitement about being part of a new values-driven organisation undertaking significant growth
  • A strong intersectional feminist understanding of the dynamics, causes and impacts of sexual violence, at an individual, social and political level
  • A deep commitment to ending sexual assault and the rights and recovery of victim survivors

Familiarity with sexual assault services, including Victorian centres against sexual assault, will be an advantage. Experience working in a membership organisation will be well received.

Additionally, you

  • must be legally entitled to work in Australia
  • must have a current Australian police check (and international where applicable), and Victorian Working with Children Check (if a police check creates difficulties for you, please feel free to discuss with job contact person)
