Communications and Engagement Officer

The Global Center is seeking a Communications and Engagement Officer to creatively and strategically communicate the impact of the Global Center’s work to key audiences in support of fundraising efforts and to coordinate digital and in-person engagement with the United Nations and UN missions in New York.

The successful candidate will collaborate with the Global Center’s international team to develop and track multifaceted communications initiatives as the organization seeks to expand and deepen engagement with new funders and with the United Nations and other stakeholders in New York.

The position is full time, New York-based with a flexible hybrid working arrangement.

Responsibilities

Communications

  • Administer all aspects of digital communications, including website content, social media, email, and marketing campaigns.
  • Collaborate with staff to quickly turn ideas into action: regularly draft and edit creative, compelling, and accessible digital messaging and social media content and campaigns around the Global Center’s work and impact.
  • Draft and edit targeted communications content for fundraising activities and campaigns.
  • Track, collect, and analyze data on communications content from emails, social media, and website.
  • Identify news and publications that are timely and related to Global Center work to serve as references and resources to improve messaging and content.
  • Help shape internal procedures, guidelines, and good practices to strengthen staff contributions to digital content.
  • Inform strategy and tactics to grow social media engagement among target audiences using appropriate channels and tactics.

UN engagement

  • Support networking and engagement with a range of UN partners, consultants, government officials, non-governmental organizations, and embassy/mission staff.
  • Oversee and organize the administrative and logistical planning of in-person and virtual activities, including the preparation of meeting materials, securing venues and equipment, event related communications, and travel coordination as needed.
  • Manage, track, and process event-related expenses to ensure alignment with program budgets and in accordance with the organization’s procurement policy.
  • Maintain and update organizational contact databases and ensure programmatic materials are properly stored and retained on the organization’s shared drive(s).
  • Contribute to other assigned tasks, including office management, as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience in social media management, communications, public relations, and event coordination.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Forms).
  • Experience managing social media accounts on X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills.
  • Eye for graphic design, strong attention to visual and narrative fidelity, and experience with basic graphic design programs and other photo editing software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and an enthusiasm for building authentic relationships.
  • Ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, and diplomacy in an exciting but challenging environment, including ability to navigate cultural, linguistic, and political landscapes.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, and ability to work independently and collaboratively with professionals at different levels of seniority, across multiple time zones, in a remote setting.
  • Exceptional research and editing skills.
  • Must be able to work 40 hours per week; between 9:00am and 5:00pm, Monday-Friday.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field
  • Understanding of WordPress and website development
  • Familiar with HubSpot and/or Salesforce
  • Experience with using online marketing software such as Constant Contact
  • Experience with event coordination.

Compensation

Starting salary range USD 62,000-83,000 commensurate with experience. The Global Center offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance, retirement, professional development, and leave.
