ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
More specifically, the roles and responsibilities of the Communications and Knowledge Management Officer are as follows:
Strategy and Workplan Development
- Craft and execute detailed communication strategies and work plans tailored to amplify the water programme’s visibility and impact. This includes aligning these strategies with the overarching goals of the organisation and ensuring a coherent brand voice across all platforms.
- Implement quality control measures and adherence protocols to maintain the integrity of the brand. This involves regular reviews of all communication materials to ensure they meet the highest standards and are consistent with organisational guidelines.
Project Support and Coordination
- Lead the creation, editing, and final production of a diverse range of knowledge products, ensuring they are insightful, accurately represent the program’s achievements, and adhere to the IUCN’s style guides.
- Actively support project partners in enhancing their communication strategies, focusing on community engagement and maximizing visibility during key events and opportunities.
- Coordinate communications activities, ensuring seamless collaboration with program partners, IUCN offices, donors, and third parties.
Content Development and Digital Engagement
- Manage the end-to-end process of content creation for digital platforms, including websites and social media, ensuring content is engaging, up-to-date, and strategically aligned to enhance programme visibility and stakeholder engagement.
- Take the lead in organizing and promoting programme-specific events. This includes creating compelling promotional materials and utilising digital platforms to engage a wider audience and increase participation in both virtual and physical spaces.
Knowledge Management
- Coordinate efforts to capture, manage, and share knowledge within the organization, enhancing the program’s learning environment and ensuring key insights are accessible to all stakeholders.
- Oversee the creation, editing, and dissemination of key knowledge products, ensuring consistency with our branding and communication standards.
Media Relations
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with media outlets to enhance program visibility. This includes managing all aspects of media relations, from press release distribution to co-managing virtual event platforms and ensuring consistent, positive coverage of program initiatives.
Partnerships Support
- Network and liaise with partners and potential partners, developing and maintaining partnerships and strong relationships across all sectors (including the private sector).
- When required, represent IUCN and maintain good working relationships among the international and local NGO community in the basins, among community leadership structures and community-based organisations.
- Co-investment and developing new proposals.
- Play a role in identifying funding opportunities and the development of concept papers and proposals.
Procurement and Admin Support
- Oversee procurement of communication equipment, supplies, and services, ensuring compliance with IUCN’s Internal Control System procedures.
- Assist with programme procurement for external service providers, maintaining a rigorous inventory of programme assets and acting as liaison for all communication and knowledge management matters across units.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Background in the science of communications or any other relevant fields.
- Proven record of accomplishments working in communications, management of events and campaigns implementation. Experience in the field of environment and/or in the context of large organisations would be an asset.
- University degree, in communications/marketing/journalism/PR or related field; and at least 5 years of relevant experience working at a professional level.
- Experience in managing and implementing communications programs, experience with CMS and social media best practices.
- Knowledge of graphic design, photography, and video editing best practices a strong advantage
- Excellent writing, and editing skills; strong attention to detail.
- Resourceful; ability to take initiative, exercise good judgment, think laterally and resolve complex issues in a dynamic and changing environment.
- Excellent planning and organising skills, with exceptional attention to detail and ability to cope with varied workload and flexible working hours, and able to work independently.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity; Adheres to IUCN’s core values of transparency, inclusiveness, professionalism, and accountability.
- Work experience in Mozambique is advantageous.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Fluency in English and Portuguese, both written and verbal. Fluency in local languages an added advantage.
- Knowledge of at least one other indigenous language in Mozambique is desirable.
