Context
FAO, is a dynamic and renewed organization, that is recognized as the lead UN technical organization in the fight to eradicate hunger, eliminate rural poverty, and in the promotion of sustainable agriculture, fisheries and livestock development while promoting sustainable management of the environment and natural resources for the benefit of communities and rural people in need.
One of the FAO’s corporate goals is to increase visibility of the organization’s work being done at country, regional and global levels. At country level, the communication team of the FAO Representation in China is responsible for raising the visibility of FAO’s work in China and DPR Korea.
Task description
In close collaboration with FAO’s Office of Communications (OCC) branches and focal points, under the overall supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative of the FAO China Office and the technical guidance and supervision of the FAO Regional Communication Officer in Bangkok, Thailand, the in-cumbent UN Volunteers will report directly to the National Communication and Partnership Consultant of the FAO China Office, perform the following duties:
– Assist supervisor to develop social media content for FAO China.
– Assist supervisor to manage national social media campaigns aimed at leveraging the power of social media to build wider public awareness on food and agriculture related topics, including for global campaigns.
– Assist in generating editorial content, including human-interest stories, newsletters, brochures, photo essays, and others.
– Take photographs and videos for FAO’s meetings, events and other activities in China.
– Edit short videos for promoting FAO’s projects or initiatives in China.
– Translate English/Chinese articles.
– Collect Chinese media coverage information.
– Assist in maintaining media relations.
– Design posters.
– Be familiarize him/herself with FAO’s corporate communication policy and operational guide-lines to ensure mandatory coherence of all communication and information outputs
– Demonstrate a strong understanding of FAO Style in drafting documentation, without the need for continuous correction or oversight.
– Perform any other duties as required.

– Further guidance regarding FAO communications, policies and procedures can be found through the FAO intranet, OCC section.
Furthermore, UNVs are encouraged to:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and taking an active part in UNV activities (for instance, IVD celebration events).
• Get acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country.
• Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking.
• Contribute news and articles on field experiences and submit them to UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc..
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UNV volunteers.
• Promote online volunteering and encourage individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering Service whenever technically feasible.
Results/Expected Output:
At the end of assignment:
– Social media content drafted.
– FAO news and other articles translated.
– Newsletter edited and submitted via FAO’s PWS system.
– News coverage data collected.
