All UNHCR staff members are accountable to perform their duties as reflected in their job description. Purpose and Scope of Assignment:
- Lead the development and dissemination of Communicating with Communities material in the Northern Region of Mexico covered by Sub Office Monterrey.
- Function as first line of communication for media related requests, keeping supervisor duly informed.
- Prepare talking points in coordination with the Head of Sub Office for media interviews and events.
- Focal person in the organization of public information events and activities, in close coordination and communication with other Units including community based protection.
- Compile and maintain the mailing list for press releases, information bulletins, etc. and ensure timely dispatch of information to media and other interested parties.
- Classify and maintain adequate stock of PI materials and promote sale of merchandise where appropriate.
- Provide assistance with regard to PI events such as poster campaigns, exhibitions, and public awareness raising events.
- Respond to routine enquiries from a variety of sources such as the media, the public, NGOs, and government officials etc.
- Maintain PI files up to date.
- Have access to UNHCR’s communication systems.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Monitoring and Progress Controls:
- Weekly/Bi-Weekly analysis/discussion of reports
- Application of UNHCR rules and regulations.
Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
- Completed high school or bachelor or equivalent or higher with certificate / training in Business Administration, Journalism, Social Science, or another relevant field. University degree in communication related field is preferred.
Work Experience:
- Minimum 1-year relevant experience to the above description of activities.
- Communication and computer skills. Excellent drafting skills in Spanish and very good communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Prior experience in media and/or community level communications.
