Communications Associate

Position description

The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) seeks to hire a highly motivated, entry-level communications professional who is familiar with and committed to furthering FDD’s mission. This position is part of FDD’s communications team that reports to the Senior Director of Communications.

Responsibilities

• Supports the creation and implementation of daily outreach strategies and targeted outreach campaigns to promote FDD research and researchers to print, broadcast media, and radio reporters, bookers, and editors at the national, international, state, and local levels.
• Assists with web management and posting.
• Supports the execution of short- and long-term communications strategies and tactical plans.

• Creates content for social media platforms such as X, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

• Contributes to the daily collection of and presentation of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual media metrics.

• Updates FDD’s media database.

• Works with other Communications team members and interns on a range of projects and tasks.

Qualifications

• BS or BA degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations, Political Science, or related field.

• Established interest and background in U.S. foreign policy, national security, defense, and current affairs.

• Superior verbal, written, analytical, and personal communication skills.

• Strong organization skills with the ability to manage multiple ongoing activities.

• Track record of working on tight deadlines with high attention to detail.

• Digital communications experience and knowledge of WordPress preferred.

• Knowledge of Canva, InDesign, Sprout, Veed or other content creation and scheduling platforms desired.

• Experience or strong interest in content creation for Instagram.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a flexible schedule determined by the news cycle, including some weekend and evening work, as needed.
