Communications Coordinator
Salary: $44,000

As part of the Foster Success Development & Communications team, the Communications Coordinator will support the execution and development implementation of program-related communications plans and activities that support Foster Success’s goals, mission and Strategic Plan, which emphasizes implementing a clear marketing and communications strategy. This includes and is not limited to social media, newsletters, blog postings, impact report, and internal and external communications. This position may also assist the Chief Development & Communications Officer with development projects as needed, which could include event management and some administrative tasks.
Development & Communications oversees all fundraising initiatives, including events, grant writing, major gifts and annual giving, and all external and internal marketing and communications strategies including advertising, content creation, media relations, public affairs, social media and the website.
Foster Success is committed to improving the foster care system and ensuring that teens and young adults transitioning out of foster care are educated, housed, financially stable, employed, and connected to a support system by age 26. Our team accomplishes this through program delivery, policy change, and partnership development in the areas of secondary and post-secondary education, workforce development, health and well-being, financial empowerment, housing stability, and youth engagement.
The Communications Coordinator reports to the Director of Marketing & Communications. This position is located in Indianapolis, IN, and will have the option to become hybrid.
Primary Responsibilities

Manage communications projects
-
Assist in monitoring communications requests as they come in, many of which involve creating flyers, graphics and social media posts to promote events and programs across departments.

Creation of content/copy and proofing of all marketing materials.

Maintain consistent communication and equity through newsletters and blog postings.

Assign or complete projects accordingly and timely.

Assist in creating and executing the communications strategy.

Take lead in writing the annual Impact Report.

Support the social media strategy

Monitor social media analytics to determine best practices, report findings to the team, and make recommendations for improvements.

Create and develop copy for the various platforms.

Ensure posts follow organizational brand guidelines.

Monitor comments/messages and respond accordingly.

Engage with donors and young people who may reach out via social media.

Share youth-related articles/studies and engage with other organizations as Foster Success expands its footprint.

Develop messaging and sample social media posts to push out to the board, staff, and stakeholders during key times.

Assist with special events

Assist with the planning, set up and execution of special events.

Ensure corporate partners are highlighted effectively via social media and newsletters as they relate to each event.

Relay communications creatively to draw in a specific audience for each event.

Some evenings and/or weekends are required to work at organizational events.

Position Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in strategic communications, public relations, journalism, or related field.

Outstanding written, communication, storytelling and editing skills

Experience creating and maintaining spreadsheets and developing communication materials.

Familiarity with AP Style writing.

Creative, enthusiastic, and willing to work with a team on collaborative and successful marketing and communications strategies.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications

2-3 years of demonstrated success in copywriting or communications are preferred, but recent college graduates with experience such as internships may be considered.

Experience in fundraising communications
