About EuroHealthNet

EuroHealthNet is the European Partnership for health, equity and wellbeing. It consists of over 70 bodies from European countries responsible for public health and health promotion. From our office in Brussels, we coordinate policy, advocacy, research, and capacity- building activities that help address health inequalities and positively affect the determinants of health.

EuroHealthNet’s activities take place across three complementary Platforms covering Policy, Practice, and Research. A core management and administration team unify and build connections between the Platforms. Within the core team, communications activities amplify the messages and expertise of the EuroHealthNet Partnership.

About the position

EuroHealthNet is currently looking for a motivated, highly skilled Communications Coordinator or Communications Officer to join its dynamic team in Brussels. The exact position will depend on the candidate’s experience and skills.

EuroHealthNet’s Communications team amplifies the messages and expertise of Partnership members by disseminating reliable, evidence-based, and timely information to public health and social equity actors, and policy- and decision-makers. The team creates connections between public health professionals, resources, and initiatives to facilitate advocacy for a healthier and fairer Europe.

The Communications Coordinator/Officer is accountable to the Senior Communications Coordinator and the relevant Programme Manager, with occasional reporting to the Director.

The position provides opportunities for initiative regarding specific tasks, such as those set out below. The successful candidate will be expected to take part in the strategic communications work plan, fulfilling a problem-solving role where high-level knowledge and experience is required. They will develop strong networking with colleagues, members, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have the following specific responsibilities:

  • Lead the communications activities surrounding our upcoming report on health inequalities in Europe, scheduled to be published in 2025. A launch event will also link to this report and will coincide with the redevelopment of our Health Inequalities Portal. Following this launch, the Communications Coordinator/Officer will be responsible for maintaining the Portal as the leading platform for information and resources on health inequalities in Europe;
  • Lead the development of EuroHealthNet’s online Annual Report, which highlights the collective work and impact of our Partnership. This includes coordinating the contributions from colleagues, editing and proofreading, and finalising the content, as well as working with external graphic designers to create the report.

As part of the communications team, the successful candidate will also contribute to the following tasks:

  • Contribute to the draughting and implementation of EuroHealthNet’s annual and multiannual communication strategies to optimise the Partnership’s reach and impact;
  • Help develop and send mailings. These include our internal Partnership newsletter ‘Network Intelligence’ and our public newsletter ‘Health Highlights’, as well as press releases and statements;
  • Regularly maintain and update our websites, including adding publications, statements, consultation responses, and other marketing collateral to our sites;
  • Support the in-house design, layout, and proofreading of publications, such as our Policy Précis and our European Semester report;
  • Manage EuroHealthNet’s social media channels together with the Communications team;
  • Build, maintain, and nurture professional relationships with communication officials, including stakeholders, European institutions, media representatives, as well as graphic designers and other external contractors.

Profile

  • You are educated to master level in communications/marketing or journalism with a demonstrated understanding of public health and health equity or have a degree in public health or other relevant field (e.g., social sciences, humanities, etc.) with strong evidential work experience in a communications role;
  • You have 2-5 years of relevant experience in communications;
  • You have a strong strategic vision of communications. You are keen to lead high-level activities as well as work on the day-to-day tasks of communications (e.g., updating websites, social media content creation, etc.);
  • You have the following technical experience:
    • Maintaining and developing WordPress websites; knowledge of HTML and CSS is an asset;
    • Writing attractive and engaging content (in English) for social media, press releases and statements, announcements, and other promotional material;
    • Strong editing and proofreading skills, with a focus on articles, policy briefs, newsletters, and other online and printed material;
    • Experience of using email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp;
    • Proven experience of using CRM systems such as CiviCRM;
    • Experience of creating engaging content for social media, such as short and long-form videos;
    • Experience of using design platforms such as the Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro, as well as Canva.
  • You possess a C2-level (or equivalent) in English and use it to a (near) native level. Knowledge of other European languages is an asset. Your writing skills in English will be tested during the interview;
  • You have demonstrable knowledge of EU policymaking processes and EU institutions and/or previous experience working on EU-funded projects;
  • You are proficient in using Microsoft Office tools, e.g., Teams and SharePoint;
  • You deliver high-quality results in a timely fashion and are comfortable working on your own as well as in teams;
  • You can work on multiple tasks simultaneously to meet rapidly changing requirements of projects and priorities;
  • You are rigorous and organised, with excellent attention to detail, and excel in the ability to identify minor errors;
  • You have a proactive mindset and pragmatic approach to problem-solving, and you are comfortable taking the initiative.

Practicalities

This position is offered according to Belgian national legislation. While it is foreseen as a full-time position for 38 hours a week, there is a possibility to work 30 hours a week (80%). The successful candidate will be offered a fixed-term contract of one year, with the possibility of obtaining an extension or a permanent contract afterwards. All applicants must be qualified, eligible, and able to work in Belgium.

The annual gross salary ranges between €3,000 and €3,500 depending on experience and qualifications. It will also include benefits such as meal vouchers, financial support towards the use of public transport to work, and hospital insurance.

The successful candidate must be based in Belgium or willing to relocate. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide financial assistance for relocation. The post will combine in- office and remote work, as well as occasional travel within Europe. The necessary materials to work remotely (e.g., laptop) will be supplied.
