  • Full-time, Continuing position  

  • Salary HEW 5 + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements 

  • Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University 

 

About The Position 

 
 

The Communications Coordinator supports the External Affairs and Media team to promote the University’s strategic direction, goals and objectives through engaging media and social media activities.   

Reporting to the Communications Manager, External Affairs and Media, the successful candidate understands the media landscape and frequently engages with traditional and new media to stay on top of the news cycle.  

 

Leading the key media monitoring and reporting functions in the team, the candidate will communicate with key stakeholders to provide regular updates through daily briefs, weekly editorials and other regular reporting activities.   

 

This role will work collaboratively with the team leads to source and execute earned publicity opportunities for the university and its academics through its owned channels and external connections. 

 

This is an ideal role for early career media and public relations professionals looking to develop their portfolio and gain skills working in a large organisation.  

 

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:  

 

  • An understanding of external relations and media and how it contributes to strategic organisational objectives 

  • Excellent communication skills. 

  • A passion for creating engaging and impactful media and social media content for external audiences.  

  • An understanding of the Australian media landscape and what makes a good news story.  

  • Some experience working with new media and digital technology, such as video recording and editing. 

  • Ability to participate in a workplace culture of high performance and accountability for outcomes. 

 

Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check. 

 

About the Portfolio 

 

The International and Engagement portfolio is responsible for RMIT’s international strategy and agenda, including international development and partnerships and oversight of our international operations including RMIT Vietnam and RMIT Europe. It also incorporates the University’s key engagement functions including communications, experience (global marketing, global student recruitment, alumni), and business development and partnerships.
