The Development Institute Editor, based in Rome (Italy), will be responsible for helping develop and implement the highest editorial standards for the curation and dissemination of World Bank economic research and the Institute’s knowledge products. The Editor will help create and edit high-profile content, including educational materials, policy briefs, and analytical reports. The person will also contribute to the development of blog posts, feature stories, presentations, and other products. Additionally, the Editor will maintain the Institute’s style guide, ensuring its quality and consistency across all written content, which is produced and tailored for a broad range of audiences and stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Develop impactful economic content in line with WBG strategic priorities, and perform rigorous quality control to guarantee clarity, accuracy, and adherence to the editorial standards.
- Curate and organize research studies and other knowledge products, ensuring they are relevant, and consistent across platforms, and aligned with economic principles and empirical evidence to engage broader audiences, including policy makers and nontechnical readers.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to streamline knowledge curation and dissemination, maintaining a network of contributors and experts for high-quality content and ensuring efficient content delivery.
- Work with the Learning and Communications leads to develop courses, learning materials, and other knowledge and communications products.
- Advice the team on editorial standards and effective messaging, consistent with WBG strategic priorities.
Selection Criteria
- Master’s degree in economics, business administration, international relations, journalism or other relevant field, with at least five years of experience writing and editing economic and development content.
- Demonstrated expertise in the content creation process, and strong conceptualization skills in economic policy research.
- Excellent communication skills, encompassing all editorial aspects – including writing, editing, proofreading, and managing complex contents for clarity and persuasive presentation.
- Proficiency in using editorial tools and software, with strong command of grammar, punctuation, and style. Knowledge of digital publishing platforms and content management systems is essential.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities, along with strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
