Work percentage: 100%
Grade: I
Expected start date: 01 April 2024
Type of contract: Fixed-term (6 months)

BACKGROUND
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) was founded in 1948 and brings together over 1,400 members (States, government agencies, NGOs and affiliates) and more than 15,000 scientists and experts from over 160 countries in a unique worldwide partnership. Its mission is to influence, encourage and assist societies throughout the world to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable. IUCN has approximately 1,000 staff, most of whom are based in its regional and country offices, and at its Headquarters in Gland, Switzerland. IUCN is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from qualified women and men.

The IUCN North America Regional Office (IUCN NARO) is located in Washington D.C. and is home to senior leadership of IUCN’s global program teams (including Climate Change, Economics, Forests, Oceans, Human Rights and Gender) as well as NARO staff responsible for supporting the 170 IUCN Members across North America and driving conservation strategy and policy in the region. The North America Office has built strong relationships with U.S. funders – including government agencies, charitable foundations, and philanthropists – to support the work of IUCN and its partners and Members worldwide.
IUCN NARO houses IUCN-United States, a partner organization to IUCN, incorporated in 1986 in the District of Columbia with 501(c)(3) charitable status under U.S. law, and legally distinct from IUCN. IUCN-US provides financial support to IUCN in addressing some of the world’s greatest environmental challenges. It has been supporting IUCN, and its network of members and partners for over 25 years. By partnering with IUCN-US, IUCN is better able to channel U.S. funding opportunities to the Union. IUCN-US’s mission is to “builds bridges between US donors and IUCN, by catalysing, accelerating, funding and promoting IUCN’s work — conserving nature and natural resources in the United States and throughout the world”. Dr. Tracy Farrell, the IUCN NARO Regional Director, serves also as the Chief Executive Officer of IUCN-US.
