The Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement is a country-led and country-driven network of member stakeholders working to support 65 SUN Countries and 4 Indian States to develop and achieve their nutrition targets. It is founded on a multistakeholder and multisectoral approach that harnesses the broad capacities of key players working to bring healthy nutrition to everyone, everywhere. It is facilitated by the SUN Movement Secretariat and four SUN Networks – the SUN Civil Society Network, SUN Business Network, SUN Donor Network and UN Nutrition – representing +4,000 organizations, +1,400 businesses, 16 UN agencies, and leading public and private sector donors.
The SUN Movement Global Gathering is the flagship event of the SUN Movement, gathering more than 1000 participants representing all the 65 SUN countries, stakeholders groups and sectors of the Movement. This event is a key moment for SUN members to take stock of progress and challenges, share their innovations and learn what is effective in reducing malnutrition across all SUN countries.
The SUN Movement Secretariat is hosted by UNOPS.
Role of the Intern
- Under the guidance and supervision of the Communications Analyst, the intern will provide support to the SUN Movement Secretariat performing a variety of dedicated functions ensuring high quality and accuracy of work, in support of the SUN Movement Secretariat and teams’ activities.
Functional Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Communications Analyst, the intern will:
- Provide general operational assistance to the Communications and Advocacy teams working on various projects and activities.
- Support the liaison of external vendors, including support to the planning and oversight of requests and deliverables, and ensuring applicability of SUN standards: translators, copy editors, graphic designers, web developers.
- Assist with administrative support, including scheduling of meetings, taking meeting minutes and preparing briefing notes
- Support efforts related to event management – including preparing and dispatching invitation letters, assisting with organization, implementation of and follow up to events, briefings, video/audio conference calls and webinars
- Support with data management systems including regular updates of key documents, audiovisual assets and contact databases.
- As advised by the Communications Analyst, support communications and outreach activities, updating the website and social media channels, drafting monthly newsletters.
- Other communication and administrative related tasks required assigned by the unit.
Training components and learning elements
The incumbent will have access to project and portfolio documentation to learn about project management and development cooperation in the areas the portfolio covers. She/he has the opportunity to join official meetings and learn about UNOPS, and the UN, and multilateral cooperation. She/he will get exposure to key stakeholders, multi-partner donors, international non-governmental organizations and other representatives.
The incumbent will also have full access to UNOPS intranet, Google Currents/Communities of Practice (COPs) in Project Management, Gender Mainstreaming, Innovation and Research, Sustainable Infrastructure, etc.
Education/Experience/Language requirements
Education:
The applicant must be enrolled in a university programme, such as a Bachelor, Masters, or Ph.D. (or equivalent) or have graduated from such studies within three (3) years prior to the applications date of the internship
Experience:
Professional work experience is not required for this internship.
The following experience will be an asset:
- Prior work experience in communications and/or project management
- Capacity to prioritise assignments and strong commitment to teamwork and results.
- Proficiency in the use of CMS and other software applications
- Knowledge of photo and video editing softwares
Language:
- Fluency is written and oral English is required.
- Working knowledge of other UN languages is an asset – particularly French and Spanish.
