The overarching strategic goal of UNICEF’s Information and Communication Technology Division (ICTD) is to transform and build partnerships with our stakeholders to successfully implement UNICEF programs globally through innovative technology-enabled solutions.

UNICEF is going through an exciting digital transformation that will influence the work of the entire organization. As part of this transformation, UNICEF has opened a new ICTD Digital Core office in Valencia, Spain to execute ICTD’s digital strategy across all UNICEF locations globally

How can you make a difference?

UNICEF is looking for an intern to support the Comms Team in its Information Communication Technology Division (ICTD). The Intern will have the opportunity to learn about UNICEF’s mission, its various programmes, and how it operates globally, while being exposed to working in an international environment. This role will further develop analytical and transactional skills while allowing participation in interesting initiatives.

The Intern will support the comms function at the division with tasks such as researching, interviewing, writing, editing, collecting materials, collating information, and preparing for publishing in internal and external channels. The Intern will also assist and work on other comms tasks such as keeping track of social media accounts and discussions online, proposing ideas for articles, page layout, social media posts, and any other comms-related ad hoc tasks.

The intern will assist in external event organization, where applicable.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Current or recent (graduated in the last 2 years) enrollment in a university programme in Communication, Media, or other related area

  • Ability to work 40 hrs/week in Valencia, Spain or remotely.
  • Fluency in English is required, Spanish knowledge would be an asset
  • Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications; excellent knowledge of software such as but not limited to virtual tools and MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint. Design software such as InDesign, Photoshop, etc., would be an asset.
  • Communication – Effectively presents thoughts and ideas including complex technical concepts, in a clear, concise, and readily understood manner, both verbally and in writing. Listens to and acknowledges others’ perspectives and views
  • Flexibility – Works effectively on multiple assignments simultaneously and adapts to changing demands and circumstances
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills – able to work well in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail with solid writing as well as organization skills
  • Excellent listener
  • Commitment and drive for results

Contract Duration and Terms 

  • The duration of this internship is 6 months. Individuals must fund their travel and living expenses in Valencia if coming onsite.
  • Individuals must have proof of medical insurance covering their time at the duty station.
  • Individuals are personally responsible for obtaining any required visa or residence permit, covering the entire period of their internship
  • Internships are paid a monthly net stipend of EUR 800.00 per month for full-time arrangements (40hrs/week), which will be prorated according to attendance. I working remotely, this might be adjusted to the actual location . Work arrangements are based on the effective regulations of the duty station, organizational needs and schedules of the interns.
  • Interns may take up to 2.5 days per month off work for any reason, including for medical reasons. The stipend will be reduced for any absence beyond this quota.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
