The intern will assist with numerous aspects of social media monitoring, development and execution of communications strategies, and video editing.  Specific tasks might include utilizing video and/or photo editing software to create content for the institution’s social media accounts, primarily Twitter and LinkedIn. The intern will also be utilized to optimize the institution’s content management systems and internal organization processes.   
The intern may also be asked to assist with event planning, which could include assistance with event set-up, maintaining RSVP lists, and providing onsite support.  
The intern may have the opportunity to network with NCNK members on an individual and perhaps group basis. 
The above, while not an exhaustive list of intern responsibilities and opportunities reflects some key areas of time commitment.

Learning Objectives: 
  • Gain insight into the development, creation, and execution of communications & social media strategies of a nongovernmental organization (NGO) 
  • Have opportunities to create content and implement communications strategies alongside NCNK staff 
  • Become familiar with new tools and sources for research and communications 
  • Have an opportunity to network with top US experts on North Korea and learn about North Korea and US policy 
Deliverables: 
  • Work alongside staff to create graphics, clips, one-pagers and other promotional items  
  • Create, produce and edit video projects for the NCNK team 
  • Draft tweets, LinkedIn posts, and other social media content  
  • Assist with proofreading and editing website content  
  • Update NCNK’s event calendar  
  • Help with set-up and implementation of Zoom webinars and other meetings 
  • Provide research support, as necessary 
Ideal Candidate Should Possess The Following Qualifications:  
  • University degree in progress or recently completed (within 1 year) in relevant discipline  
  • Demonstrated proficiency in video editing software (such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro, Movavi, or similar) required 
  • Experience creating content for social media, primarily Twitter and LinkedIn, required 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in graphic design/photo editing software (such as Canva) highly desirable 
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills 
  • Fluent in oral and written English 
  • Able to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work within a small team 
  • Detail-oriented, organized and efficient 
  • Experience with Critical Mention or similar media monitoring software, website content management systems (such as Drupal), and email marketing services (such as Mailchimp) a preferred, but not required 
  • Interest in the Korean peninsula or East Asia a plus, but not required
