Organizational context
UNHCR’s Private Sector Partnership Service (PSP) supports UNHCR’s fast-growing global collaboration with the private sector through its network in Africa, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East. Within PSP, the Private Partnerships and Philanthropy Section (PPH) engages corporations, private foundations and individual philanthropists. Within PPH, the Corporate and Shared Value Partnerships Unit, based in Geneva and Copenhagen, develops and supports UNHCR’s fundraising network across the globe to develop partnerships with companies to raise funds, advocate for and advance refugees’ rights, promote refugees’ economic and financial inclusion, and increase refugees’ access to products and services that they require.
The Position
The Communications and Knowledge Management Intern will contribute to the development and implementation of the team’s content strategy with an eye to strengthening online and print communications, brand awareness and public engagement for UNHCR’s partnerships with corporates. This entails looking at our internal communication of corporate guidance to PSP and non-PSP networks as well as products for corporate audiences.
This content support will enable private-sector fundraisers to cultivate, grow, and strengthen existing partnerships. The intern will report to the Senior Corporate and Shared Value Partnerships Coordinator in the Corporate & Shared Value Partnership team and collaborate closely with colleagues in the PPH Private Sector Engagement and Global Communications teams, including other key stakeholders across DER such as Crisis Communications and Brands Unit, and beyond.
Duties and responsibilities
Communications
• Support the proofreading, re-packaging, writing, editing, and commissioning of various content and assets;
• Contribute to the planning, development and management of best practice communications that maximize engagement and visibility for UNHCR’s work on corporate and shared value partnerships;
• Support content development, production, and distribution in close coordination with UNHCR’s communication and content teams.
• Work with UNHCR’s global corporate fundraiser network to understand needs and priorities and socialise products/content.
Knowledge management:
• Research and analyse trends impacting corporate collaborations, to help inform the roll-out of the social impact workplan, especially the advocacy and influencing business practice workstreams;
• Support the formation of communities of practice on corporate partnerships;
• Identify success stories and maintain a good practice database;
• Help organize webinars, conference calls, and in-person meetings as required;
• Help ensure core PPH corporate team community documents, including presentations, and case and reference materials, are up-to-date, of high quality, and readily available.
Minimum qualifications required
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.
• Fluency in English is required.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent writing and editing skills.
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, SharePoint);
Desirable qualifications and skills
• Experience in creative writing and/or journalism
• Experience in public campaigning
• Advanced user of graphic design tools (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva, etc)
• Planning and organizing competencies, with the ability to multitask and prioritize workload;
Conditions
It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 8.30am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week, with one hour lunch). The successful candidate will be assigned to support the team in Geneva, Switzerland.
Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
